When lead is phase out - can we use up existing stocks of lead cartridges ?

Recommended Posts

When the alleged self imposed restriction on using lead shot comes around in 4 1/2 years time, I have yet to find the answer as to wether we will be able to use up our existing stocks of lead shot cartridges and lead shot stocks we have on the shelf for re-loading?

My eldest brother bought 20k of lead shot cartridges when he retired and hasn't been retired very long and has since bought more !

Perhaps someone on here has the answer?

As I understand it - I have to say I didn't pay too much attention to it as I will not be using NTS - this restriction is voluntary (never volunteer for anything) and when the period comes to an end which, again as I understand it, was designed to allow the makers time to come up with something, you just continue to use whatever you want unless the law has been changed in the meantime. Naturally, any legislation will have to allow time for the component makers to use up their existing stock, then the same for the cartridge makers themselves, followed on by the retailers and finally the end users. Call it ten years minimum. I have no doubt that if this is wrong I will quite rightly be corrected.

No the lead police will visit everyone with a licence and you will have to surrender all lead shot without compensation and donate it to my son for the keel of his new boat .

In other words how the heck does anyone know. There might not even be a full ban. The details still have to be ironed out.

I would shoot some of them quick or make sure you are not storing more than 10,000 at a single premisses address, as the accepted maximum under the explosive regulation for Net Explosive Equivalent limit is 10,000 cartridges  equals 14kg of propellant, over that you need a storage licence, may be a bit of give and take but stay on the legal side with your FEO, 20,000 would be way over the top.
