Dave-G
I took my grandson out for a walk today around some stubble fields I got permission for recently. It's the first time I have walked the perimeter and it's amazing how much wheat is left under the stalks when you disturb them. Is this normal or has the farmer got a problem that I ought to draw his attention to - and risk him thinking I'm being critical?

starlight32
I was on one of my stubbles the other day, found a huge heap of grain in the center of the field. I though it was about a tonne. I rang the landowner who said he would come take a look, but was not bothered as all his land is rented out/ contracted farmed. When he came he said we'll have that as feed for the shoot, and I helped him bag it up. When we finished it worked we had over 2 tonne! You always loose a bit of a combine due to the nature of the machine's operation. But I do think they loose a lot less not than they used to with the modern machines. Also going too fast has the same effect, this year it has been a struggle to get it in but due to wheat prices people have got it in in less than ideal conditions and quite often combining faster than usual
Teal
That's about £400 worth of grain you picked up there
starlight32
It makes you think whether with all these trailer loads of cereals flying about on the roads and there increased value there is not any 'grain hijacking' taking place?
