boo
Well committed now ! Just cut a chunk of stock out ! Now need to give a good coat of looking at, will measure what's needed for pillars & bases etc , machine them up , tempted to put a bed of devcon inbetween to achieve the perfect fit inbetween faces ! Be an ongoing project next few weeks, might go tits up yet!
WalkedUp
Looks a very straight cut, shame about the split grain at the end of the cut. Will be a great project. Keep us updated.
boo
It will sand out , hardly anything! Just need to order some 5mm brass or stainless grub screws ... Just checked more varnish gone , in a way protected the walnut.
WalkedUp
Ideal, if it’s just the varnish and going to be stripped then the wood should be grand. I’m very impressive how straight the cut is without a rigid jig.
boo
Just went for it ! Going to make a jig for drilling the pillars & guides .
boo
Right , sunday morning, been in the garage rooting , got 8mm stainless for the pillars , some 25mm ally round for the stock bosses , aircraft grade , ordered some stainless grub screws& inserts for the pillar locking , so will have to wait for the post ! In the meantime will machine up the bosses & pillars, going to insert stainless nuts in the actual cheek piece to screw pillars in , so in the future can customize to fit , lastly work out pillar location in the stock for bolt removal! So when get bits sorted will post a picture or two.

WalkedUp
What diameter scope you planning on mounting? 🤣 Seriously though. Looking neat and coming together quickly.
boo
Ha, easy loose an inch or so ! It's for a drone 10x , other rifles in grs stocks , ideal but expensive! Wait for bits to arrive, assemble , fit the action work out ideal height , then fettle it all up !
boo
Far as I can go till bits arrive , bit of stain & danish , colour match not bad , give the wood a bit of life , will seal everything in a semi-gloss finish eventually, metal work is now satin black

TIGHTCHOKE
Blimey that is some change to the height of the comb.
WalkedUp
It’s for this scope How did you finish the metal? Looks good.
boo
When bits arrive be a good 40mm chopped off the height , got to remember drone sits high , needs height for cheek weld, looks high cause of the lump missing out of the stock , be ok when done... We’re just pulling your leg 🤣 Its certainly easier to cut something an inch shorter than add a millimetre back on.

John_R
Great job on the cutting! If you have some 8mm stainless rod that would look nicer than M8 studding.
boo
It's what I had to hand in stainless, see how it performs in the field , can always replace pillars as they screw into the comb , as said wont see it in the dark , cheap & cheerful... Boo, is the threaded bar M8? I deal with steel fabricators quite frequently, if you are prepared to wait I’ll get you a couple of freebies and drop them off as a thank you for the priest. Will 150mm stainless steel 8mm Ø round bar be enough to mount your telescope properly? 😜

John Graham ended the season early due to lockdown restrictions being increasingly complicated for a club with land that crosses two states, three police forces and has members across the country. The right call IMO.
