iPhone factory reset

Hi folks

Im looking for some technical help if possible.

I have an old iPhone I’m passing to my son but it still has old images, messages etc and is still linked to my ICloud account.
 

If I factory reset it will it kill all the old data etc and get it off my iCloud account?

Also more importantly will my existing iPhone keep all its content, contacts, diary etc?

It will remove everything held on the phone only. Anything saved in your iCloud account will stay where it is.

If you have concerns, log the old phone out of your iCloud account before reset, but JTaylor91 is correct.

I'm not at all techy , and my only advice is be very very careful .

I wiped an old phone and chucked it in the cupboard , a year or two later , my lad asked my good lady if we had an old phone that he could borrow,  as his was broken . My good lady took the old phone from the cupboard and charged it . Before she gave it to my lad , she went through the phone to check that it had been wiped properly , unfortunately she found dozens of pics of one of my ex girlfriends , doing just about everything that you could possibly imagine . She wasn't impressed at all !. It ended up with a rather awkward conversation about how I'm a filth monster , and how I should be more careful about such matters . It was made even worse because the ex girlfriend was ten years younger ,stunningly fit , and rude in ways that words could never explain 😳. I wish shed have just given the phone straight to my lad , he'd have given me a high five 👋😅.

I sat at the kitchen table , hanging my head in shame as she deleted them one by one . Asking if I could possibly keep a few , didn't really seem like the right thing to do 😅😅😅.
