Non toxic 410s

Recommended Posts

Hi I’ve loaded .410 ,10grams of 2.4mm steel with TPS wad. The first load was with Maxam CCB0 powder and later with Steel powder. The wads are plastic, they cost £160 per 1000. You could make your own cardboard wads but l don’t think they would hold 10grams of steel. You would be able to load TSS in cardboard wads. You could enquire at Clay and Game about ITX . In the USA they call it ITX original, or the new bismuth shot. TSS should be loaded with a cartridge that is the same length as the chamber or it will damage the forcing cones. I have put photos of the wads l made on this website some were. I use them for steel, ITM and TSS. Good luck with your loading.

Of course bismuth works, not sure if it’s as effective as lead or steel and certainly far more expensive. Steel is good but in smaller less popular calibres the plastic wad is the downer.

There’s you cartridge then!

They don't make them now but I have an 18g load for bismuth suggested by a respected member on here and will spend some time working around that this spring/summer ready for next season.

Yes, on two of them at the moment and I can see it spreading.

It really needs for manufactuers to come up with a suitable non plastic shot cup which will breakdown in the environment.

Thanks. I thought you meant you’d heard something official.
Eley and Lyalvale do a compostable wad, but only in 12 bore as yet.

Good luck with your home load. I’m sure you will get good results. While it’s legal I shall carry on using lead and steel. I run a small private shoot and our game is shared among the team, family and friends. No outside commercial influences. 👍

Same with us.

Well, just ordered £125 worth of Bismuth and LilGun powder. Although my advisor suggested 4s I have ordered 6s and will run with them.  Having shot and tested some bismuth back five years or more ago I believe the penetration tests I did showed it to penetrate as good as lead at sensible 410 ranges (35-40yrds).  I will do some pattern and penetration testing with various chokes sometime in the future and report back here with results.

They are not going to be cheap rounds so I had better sharpen up my accuracy:lol:
