Stimo22
It is a Banksia nut, they come from Australia and are like a inside out pine cone . I turn them like any wood.
Old Boggy
They both look great Stimo22. Can I ask how you join the banksia nut to the shaft. Can you use threaded rod in that application? OB

I cut a spigot on the shank and drill the head to suit, this is a lot more time consuming but is much stronger. I am in the process of making one with a piece of cow horn and will take some photos before I assemble and post 3 minutes ago, Stimo22 said: I have found that using a steel rod tends to split the shank when used, I know that even people like the chap from Crafty County man use this method. I understand that that`s the traditional jointing method, so must be the correct way and stands the test of time. Look forward to your next post. Thanks for sharing.
