paul1966
we have an old church pew/bench that we have used in the garden for the last 15 years, it's been neglected and this year I want to refurb it a bit. The back and seat is starting to rot a bit so not sure if it needs replacing or repairing, I did think of shortening it a bit as the rot seems to be worse at each end. If I did replace the wood what could I use that's not overly expensive?
billytheghillie
2 scaffolding boards, clean rust off metalwork, black hammerite them and good to go.
Walker570
As above. It looks like an old school bench to me. We had similar back in the 50s Worth making enquiries about dipping the legs. That would clean it off fully rust and all back to bare metal. I am sure it would if it wasn't rusted solid 😀, Now you have said that the backrest does seem wider that what it needs to be so it could have been used as a desktop I guess 1 hour ago, Walker570 said: As above. The reason i thought pew was because if you look at the hinge mechanism there is a flat piece which looks as if there was a shelf for the row behind.
