Velocette
Has anyone had good fortune at the Sealed Bid auction this week. I've just heard that I was successful with the W.Calder 12g boxlock. Its an intriguing gun, clearly much loved by a previous owner who took the trouble to have it re-sleeved and chambered at 2 3/4" making it very useable these days. There was a thread on here some years ago with details of the history of Calder in Aberdeen.
holloway
I was interested in 2 or 3 lots all of which I failed to win ,they didn’t go for silly money just a little too much for me ,very noticeable how many bottom end side by side ejectors non ejectors and over and unders remained unsold probably 200 plus they are struggling to give away .Most tend to find a home in the end . udderlyoffroad
They now want £42 for delivery to your local RFD, plus £4 insurance. If you’re bidding on stuff at the low end of the market, or just want a rough gun, look elsewhere
Keith 66
I didnt have any bids on the sealed bid auction, probably would have been a divorce as i had picked up a couple of nice antique percussion pistols in the main auction. With the fees not cheap, but certainly well below prices dealers are asking for similar pieces. Looking online at well known dealers prices im staggered how high they are, Do they ever sell any or is it a case of them having to try & get their money back having paid too much years ago? Velocette
That's the way I do it, Belvoir castle on 26 April will make a day out this time, otherwise any excuse to have a few days in North Norfolk and collect personally. adzyvilla
I kept an eye on a couple of guns, both went for over the estimate and a quick browse through some of the sale results for the sealed bid and the main auction earlier in the month showed some strong prices for a lot of the nicer stuff. But as others have pointed out, a lot of the bargain basement guns failed to sell.
