la bala
A little project for my grandson. A 20 ton digger bucket seen better days. The bucket when new had 8mm floor skin backed with Hardox wear strips. I will be replacing the floor with 12mm S355 plate and Hardox wear strips. Well it stops this 80 year old brain from seizing up. Shambam1962
That takes me back a few years, and was our bread and butter work. We had a welder fabricator, who had worked on an opencast site (Wimpey Mining) and was brilliant at repairing buckets . We would manufacture new hangers and re bush and new pins as well as replacing with new bottoms and teeth. Our company manufactured and repaired hydraulic rams and associated equipment and the yard always had buckets waiting to be repaired. It was always noisy when Ray the welder was working, and he was very good at swinging a 14lb sledgehammer. He was a big lad and was built for the job. When you are talking mining, you are talking big buckets. This one I am doing now is big for me, I have been reflooring mini buckets, at my age they are the size for me. Shambam1962
We would repair any size bucket from Bob the builder to mining excavator buckets. Life was easier when we had an overhead gantry fitted and before that we had a mobile A frame and block and tackle, or the forklift.

After fitting four new boots no whine, it wasnt the diff after all. The overdrive is boxed up in the workshop, never refitted it after gearbox overhaul. Good hard face rods are expensive, but you save in the long run.
la bala
Well i have been waiting a while to get this 12mm plate rolled. Collected it today, its a good fit tacked in , and ready for welding tomorrow. Once the floor is in it will have Hardox wear strips on the back. Think this old geezer is going to be a tad warm tomorrow.
