CaptC
As you folks probably know I come across some interesting tat. I’ve had a few Mamod steam engines in the past which I have “repaired” and raised steam. Today I came across a Roadster that looks like it’s been dropped from a height as three of the wheels have broken spokes. I have prised off the hub caps on the rear wheels and removed the wheels, straightened the axle and tried the front hub caps - I cannot get them off! So please any other Mamod anorak out there who might help?
amateur
Have you tried inserting two thin blades behind the cap to gently lever it off, evenly?
CaptC
That will be Plan A tomorrow thank you. I tried using a screwdriver but feared I would damage the cap. It needs leverage from both sides of the stub axle.

It needs leverage from both sides of the stub axle. Perhaps two Stanley blades, acting as opposite wedges, carefully. Don't lever or twist them though or they will shatter. That may give you enough movement to finish the job with screwdrivers.
ph5172
I lifted this from the net. Hope it helps
CaptC
Brilliant thank you - I even asked the Mamod Owners Club and was told it was a job for experts. Now where did I put that magnifying glass??
amateur
I rebuilt a Wilesco piston engine for my grandson's pleasure. Then bought the turbine model, just to be able to compare them. I even attached some tools. We had all of about a year's fun with them, but now they are banished to the loft as "old hat" Computer games rule
CaptC
Zackly, they are a five minute wonder here. As they (steam models) have no WiFi there is no interest.
ph5172
Did the caps come off?
CaptC
No, tried two screwdrivers then sharp nosed pliers. I gave up! I had a message from someone in the Mamod club - they said cut them off. Decided to test the boiler late last night. No leaks. Thanks
old'un
there's a starlock washer holding the hubcap on, you need to get an old screwdriver and grind it to a knife edge then work it around the washer, tapping it as you go. Not yours but it will give you some idea of what you are dealing with...https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285417680206?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201210111314%26meid%3D2fdc924b13664e95b7e9d12ebad3e169%26pid%3D101195%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D334027992120%26itm%3D285417680206%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv11WebTrimmedV3MskuWithLambda85KnnRecallV1V2V4ItemNrtInQueryAndCassiniVisualRankerAndBertRecallWithVMEV3%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851&amdata=cksum%3A2854176802062fdc924b13664e95b7e9d12ebad3e169|enc%3AAQAIAAABUPqB0EgCndAssfMWNy0AT0GytGzF9%2By0G%2BlcW69DgBK3Qlz4BjwJQqPkN4K8I7qz9GoVciN1QNWqyS8EeqYS8rZRsDvyvw34m3N%2FyJKokwCTIIc3RNym2SNW8ARudP72DyiwgIY0dfUnIr5%2BMZDTaossV2RIHM3ZJHzkbwc93Wa7deisxRMWRX9g1mps%2BdEBKuDaZyMhbinSJnu%2FA8IbhsylZg6u%2Ba08P8QPhnS%2BpF7AxFGa52Xi6jyN70P5IlGhE8AGLq8j0j7gLQ%2FMgVT3P%2FzefBMAKNLzkwLDzCK59me6HjQS%2Fh4y3WUVnCThlVefGYWFCDEGaXeMzHpJHXWUwGPl%2BRWhdI8ux80XGTK2EmmfNYjPIR8ZBjowBB2Ydgt31XsBMr3Bs8DNKmqLRjvtf3dX2N3kK8ctNlr2GCbzEFIYnGCjcdZtvh4GbBnRx%2BCIkg%3D%3D|ampid%3APL_CLK|clp%3A2047675
CaptC
Many thank. The exorbitant price of even second hand wheels has encouraged me to list it on the well known selling website. Thanks to all who responded
ph5172
Shame but at least the boiler is sound. hopefully it will go as a donor. would be nice to see picture before it goes.

CaptC
A pleasure, as you may see from the pictures the wheels are truly effed which is a pity as I would have kept it.
