As it was, Putin was making an example of him to others who sought to overthrow the legitimate government of Russia, where treason is still a thing. Navalny DID have an ‘accident’, but survived. The only evidence for this is the claim by his wife that it was so, now Im not saying they didnt kill him, but western media have jumped on this novichok thing because of its 'Russianness' there is certainly no post mortem evidence to support it. If he was poisoned , by anything , the Russian authorities certainly arent going to release the evidence of it , so it is really , pure speculation. There is also plenty of speculation , and some evidence that he wasnt imprisoned/killed just for being an opposition leader, but his relationship with US intelligence services. Again, its only the Russians saying this, but what is telling, is that Navalny didnt even have to go back to Russia after his alleged poisoning in 2020, he could have claimed asylum in Germany, but what good would that do if he really was a CIA asset ? It wouldnt be the first time there was a opposition leader in exile, and even the CIA have said they cant believe he lived so long doing what he did.
