Alaskan Malamute !!!.

Hi gang.

            My neighbour has rescued one of these from the dog pound. It was a bit feisty but after socialising it with other dogs and people it is ok now.

           But the thing is it won't sleep indoors. He has it in until 10pm and then it gets up to go out.

           He has bought it a kennel but the dog won't go in it. So it sleeps out in all weathers. 

           Strange behaviour are all they all like this ?. He had an Akita before this and that slept indoors.

             Any thoughts on this ?.

Friend had an Alaskan malamute. Most stubborn dog I have ever met but in an endearing way.  His slept out in all weathers and would actively seek out the coldest spot. They do not feel the cold in the slightest and often prefer being rained on and out in all weathers.

There heritage is living in Alaska. Indoors would be too warm for them.

We always had German Shepherds, but couldn't face getting another. We looked at Alaskan malamutes, but were put off by the barking and mega hard to train. As one breeder said, if you let it off the lead and it will just run and run.

We ended up with American Akitas, but Malamutes are good sturdy dogs, although I have seen a number of lightweight awful specimens.

As others have said, it could be too warm and is choosing to sleep outside, it's also equally possible that it is learnt behaviour and if it grew up being kept outside,it might take quite some time to learn to adjust to sleeping indoors or a kennel.
