Where to secure my greenhouse ( when it arrives tomorrow)

Recommended Posts

Ok for a structural engineer  or anyone  I am getting a greenhouse tomorrow  . A wooden 8x6 ft . I have built a concrete  base. Onto that a 6x2 inch  timber  resin bolted. Into the concrete  base. . Look at the base the far left corner is face North. Our  prevailing  wind is southwest. My house will be sheltering  most of the greenhouse in a prevailing. Wind. . We do get some strong winds. From time to time .

I have some 4x2 inch brackets to bolt the inside to the 6x2 timbers . I have also got 4 retractable  ratchet straps  . Were would you locate them to be used only in strong wind will use some eye bolts into the wood base . Please feel free to down load the greenhouse picture if you wish to show a location  for them. They are 2 meter  in length  door will be going in at the right of the base . Thanks for reading

I'm assuming it's a supply and fit ? When this arrives, ask the fitters, but I'm sure the effects of wind have been taken into account re the fixings 👍

It does not talk of any fixing , hence the base and wooden structure I have made to hopefully secure  the greenhouse to base.

All they are requiring is a level and solid  base , they  are no mention of them securing  to ground .

It should be top priority with that type of structure. I'd expect a Z type fixing would be best, so the base 'screw/bolt' is away from the edges. Like these but more heavy duty steel.

Yes I got 20  4x2 inch for the inside . My concern  is the movement  say the roof area  hence tie down straps , but just scared of over tighten  them . It's. Glass so not as flexible as plastic. .

My greenhouse is aluminium construction with those clip in panes so not as robust looking as yours.  I live in a very exposed spot and get some pretty wild winds, I have never had need to strap mine down.  I’t has concrete screws into the base and that seems to be enough.  I’m thinking you may be feeling a little overprotective - and rightly so, it’s a cracking looking greenhouse.

Another thought for you i just have a row of slabs up the middle of the greenhouse so you can use the side for growing winter greens etc and on a really hot day a bucket of water on the slabs helps the humidity
