Sent an air rifle to other day by Parcel Force 48 and arrived the next day but..... missus had to argue the toss with staff at the post office to the extent that they got out the rule book. Still agued that they couldn't send it until she pointed out the relevant exception. So, be prepared to argue and stand your ground!

if you have never posted an air rifle at your post office    look up the rules and keep a copy or pic of the rules on your phone that way they cannot argue with you

Exactly this ,i always have a screenshot on my phone as you sometimes get a different member of staff, as mentioned only £150 insurance coverage and enhanced cover wasn't mentioned ,i sent one last week and it arrived safely in the 48 days but. make sure its very well wrapped and protected.

You have to, or had to it may have changed, write "DELIVERY EXCEPTION - ADDRESSEE ONLY" on the instructions if you download and print the label. Or write it on the carton. The rules are:

Arms and Ammunition - low powered air weapons Low-powered air weapons (air rifles, air guns and air pistols), together with lead pellets and other airgun and airsoft projectiles, can be sent but are subject to the following conditions:

  1. These items must be sent on an express48 service only
  2. These items must be sent via the Post Office only, and presented at the counter
  3. Enhanced compensation cover is not available

Whenever I have sent one I pack it taped after bubble wrapping to a full length and full width plank of wood and then box it. This gives some protection against the stock being broken by accident or by intent when in transit.
