Not sure how north of £2k is an investment, unless it's a £45k gun that someone wants rid, ie you are getting well under market value

You just answered your own question; tumbling market values mean you'd need your head examining if you spent  strong money on a shotgun at the moment.  I picked £2k as  the threshold for this.  After all, we all know someone who outshoots us with an old Baikal at one end of the scale, and £2k will get you a very good shotgun.  Spend any more than that and you're basically paying for embellishments, or 'bling' as the kids say.

Of course if you desire something more expensive and can afford to not recoup the initial outlay if you sell, crack on, but that puts us back in 'toy' territory.  An investment is after all supposed to appreciate, long term.

Would not disagree with anything you said, however I have not said they are investments, I said there is quality to be had for, in real terms very little money, I may be see things different as an ex smoker, 20 a day equates to circa £4400 per year, so if I spend £4k on a gun, keep it 5 years I am quids in and the enjoyment it gives which in my eyes health and happiness is priceless

Cannot argue with that at all. It`s the enjoyment that we get from owning and using such things. Guns are no longer the investment they once were, so anyone looking for an investment should look elsewhere.

Whilst I cannot disagree with your statement …..£2k is ‘entry level’ price for a new shotgun which should outlast the warranty.

But why would you buy a new shotgun when a bargain can be had for a quality second hand one. Warranty becomes irrelevant.

Myself, I have always preferred a higher quality secondhand article over a cheaper quality new one for the same price. Particularly with shotguns.
