Hull Pro Twenty clay cartridges

Recommended Posts

My shooting buddy shoots with a Beretta 400 XPLOR semi auto. He shoots game, pigeons and crows: not Clays. The gun has fired countless rounds faultlessly since new. His current cartridges are Eley VIPs 28grm 6's and he has used Gamebore

Recently a friend asked him to coach him in clay shooting and so my buddy bought Hull Pro Twenty clay cartridges. In use the ejector cuts through the rim of the cartridge leaving the case in the chamber and having to be pushed out with a rod.

Wondering whether it was a faulty batch of cartridges he contacted Hull and sent them a photo (Below). The reply was that there was nothing wrong with the cartridges it must be the gun.

So, the question for PW colleagues is how do think this problem is only happening on the Hull clay rounds and not on any of the game rounds from other manufacturers

not the same gun but have seen a 410 Remington 1100 damage cases like that and that was due to a faulty o ring in the gas port resulting in a timing issue in that the case was being ejected whilst the breech pressure was still high.

Don’t know the 400 xplor but i would be checking the gas port out.

This clearly shouldn’t be happening but if the Eley VIP are 70mm and 28gram and the Hulls are 67mm and 24gram you’re not comparing like for like. I’d try another brand of 67mm 24gram and see what it does to them. At least then you’ll know if the issue is the gun or the cartridge.

Difficult to call it an issue with the gun when the other shells are OK.
It appears like the case (or head) is expanding on firing and creating resistance to being extracted.

I’ve seen this before when using rusty shells when fowling.

Spot on, the head is expanding, I know because I've been using these in a Yildiz o/u and have had cases sticking. Some will eject if you break the gun a couple of times, others required rodding out.

I only bought them as my local supplier didn't have Fiocchi's in, I've got 200 left and I won't be buying anymore.
