dave2509
Hi all, I'm thinking about getting a quad. I've got a ford ranger so I can get about on farms, but a quad can get more places on wet ground with less damage, plus the ranger lights up like Blackpool illuminations when i turn the engine off or open a door. I shoot on multiple farms and a estate in north Yorkshire so I get around quite abit. I haven't got the budget for a gaitor or mule and I'd rather a good quad than a cheap gaitor. The question is which quad do I look for? Any recommendations please.
London Best
The illuminations are easily cured……bulb?…..fuse?…..wire snip? I have used all these methods in the past. Wire snip sounds drastic but it cured a terrible gonging noise every time I opened the door with the keys in the ignition. I don’t believe the road-going quads are much cop off the road. dave2509
I'd, rather a quad than start snipping bits of my truck. It would be mainly used on the estate and could probably be left there. The quads I'm looking at are honda trx420/500, yamaha grizzly, suzuki king quad, polaris sportsman. Which are agricultural bikes. Edited September 27 by dave2509

I had a Honda 450 Forman that I bought second hand and it was just bomb proof. Years of abuse with me using for shooting, the kids recovering gliders on a nearby airfield for many a long day and just being enjoyed. It was regularly serviced and nothing ever went wrong, broke or failed to work - and when I sold it, I got more for it than I bought it for. This, Honda all day. Have used most of them, the Honda eats them for breakfast.
dave2509
So honda is the one to go for then, but what model and what to look for good and bad. Thanks
countryman
Had a few quads and the Honda was the best by far, you can’t really go wrong with the TRX, one thing I would say if your going to use it on the road just be aware they handle different, especially cornering, don’t get to excited on it until your used to it. JohnfromUK
Some years ago when I ran a shoot we used road legal quads. They wore tyres VERY quickly on road. May be better on modern ones, but worth checking as they were expensive.
