Seriously,,,, is it possible to trace that pipe to make sure it's disconnected ? It should be, but you can't presume it is.

If it is disconnected, chop out a small amount of wall round it and angle grind through the pipe,,,, paint the end to stop rust seeping through, then mortar, plaster/filler etc etc 🫑

If it is copper pipe, NOT likely to rust. Just take it back and recap then fill over the top.

Harry, while all the detritus is still there, chop in to the wall around the projection, cut it back and recap and then fill it over.

Then you can have a smooth wall and all your tenants will never know.

I know it's the thing to do but... you start one job then it escalates πŸ€”

DON'T use one of those things !! They are for electrical connections and designed to be concealed within joists/other timber work. Worst case, just use a single surface box, as per the sockets beneath, then a blanking plate πŸ˜‰ But,,,, that's just being LAZY !!! πŸ™„πŸ€£

If you do it correctly it will be a neat job and only needs doing ONCE.Β  Β :cool1:

I have just been and looked at it again wringing my hands, the pipe goes down to the skirting board according to my tester. The jury is still out......

........ and think positively.

If you cut the pipe off, but it is connected to the gas and goes bang, demolishing the house, you won't have to worry about the new swingeing landlord legislation.

It goes down to the skirting board then "disappears" tester stops bleeping πŸ€” I don't want to be digging the floor up.

I've done these little jobs before that turn into a marathon πŸ˜‰

Edited to say I have a house two doors away that I had carpets fitted some years back, about a year ago I was taking the carpet and grippers up. One of the carpet gripper nails had gone through a gas pipe that was only just under the floor.

Some jobs aren't just a quick fix/that'll do,,,, this is one of those 'do it right, do it once' πŸ‘
