Very very nice! I think these would sell out fast if they were comercially available!!

Thank you for your comment 👍

I think they would sell, no problem at a later date.

At the moment I want to make them to the best of my ability, and have a few little niglgles to sort out, and try a few different ideas.

I have ordered brass tube, so I can try and make brass brush protectors.

As I commented at the very start of this post, I had been thinking of making a chamber brush for a while.

But it was down to PW member dogger who contacted me, and asked if I could use his broken cleaning rod, and make a chamber brush, using the brass threaded connector, for him.

I told him, I had been thinking of making one, and said I would make a prototype, complete with a new brass connector, and if he liked it I would send it off to him.

I posted the Wenge chamber brush off to him on Tuesday afternoon, and had confirmation it had arrived yesterday, and he was very pleased with it 👍

So thank you dogger, for giving me the push to have a go.

Cheers Neil, I’m glad you liked it 👍

I made this one today and a bit different, but I’m unsure if I like it 100%.

I made a turning mandrel up today, so I can turn the handles to size like my bottle stoppers, and cuts the time down by half, and no messing around changing bits and pieces.

I’ve ordered more brass rod, and going to cut it to size and spend a bit of time, just making the brass stems, for future use.

That still has brilliant looks and great build quality I should imagine!

Everything you turn out is quality!

Cheers mate, I have changed how I secure the brass stem to the handle.

I have used a 6mm aluminium furniture threaded fixing, which is threaded and glued into the handle.

This allows the stem to be secured with stainless steel threaded rod and glued into position.

The fixture in the handle, also allows the handle to be turned on the lathe using a threaded mandrel, making the turning and finish a lot quicker.

Same here I can vouch for the workmanship from the pen I received.there is so much talent on this site.

Cheers 👍

I did try a Zebrano wood handle as a prototype, but it didn’t look as good as I expected, and opted for the Wenge wood version instead.

Just an idea based on two (both commercial products) that I have.  See photo.  Both of mine have a 'cap' over the brush part.  This has two advantages, firstly it keeps the oil/dirt from getting over the rest of the cleaning kit, but secondly and more importantly it prevents the brushes getting crushed and flattened on one side.

Hi John after your advice regarding the brass brush caps, I finally received my piece of brass tube today.

I cut the tube to the required length using a pipe cutter, which gave a nice square cut, and then cleaned the pipe before fluxing and soldering the brass disc to the end of the pipe.

I made a wooden tapered spigot and spun the cap in the lathe to clean, and I will polish them up tomorrow.

They definitely look better with the new caps in position, and will protect the brush in the future.

Thank you John for your input, and appreciate your help 👍

Very glad to have been able to help.  I use caps (made from water pipe) on all my brass/bronze brushes to help keep them round and keep everything a bit cleaner.

Cheers mate, and I’m pleased with how they now look with the brass protectors.

I made a beautiful Zebrano wood chamber brush yesterday, and made it a bit up on size to show the grain pattern.

I had made a few previously and scrapped them, as they didn’t make the grade.

Loving your work 👏 You're starting to get to a standard where it seems you know what you're doing 👍🤓😁

Cheers JKD, I know what I want it to look like, but achieving the end result is ongoing, and learning as I go 👍

Well I think you've achieved that top standard already 🫡😄

Another 'suggestion' based on something I have.

This is a Beretta cleaning rod assembly as supplied (as optional extra for the SO series) in a very fancy cleaning set.  Pic 1 shows the 'handle' with wooden handle fitted with a turnscrew blade which is concealed inside a choke gauge (see 3rd pic).  The 'thinner' end of the choke gauge part has a female thread that accepts the male thread on the cleaning rod set, so you end up when assembled with a cleaning rod with a really nice to use handle.

You clearly have the skills and equipment to make these things well, and this is a set that is nice to use (as a cleaning rod mainly), I don't use the choke gauge or the turnscrew bit - which I would leave out if I was making.

Was that originally brass washed?

I think it is/was solid brass, and was lacquered (very thinly).  It would polish up, but to me - it's a tool not an ornament.   It's from the very 'delux' leather cased cleaning sets supplied as options with SO Berettas about 40 years ago.

Now that is a cracker, and thanks for posting John 👍

I do like a challenge, but I think it’s a little bit ambitious for me at the moment.

Maybe further down the line, I may consider it.

Funnily enough Prokraft  stock brass threaded male / female brass connectors.
