Ive seen a Beretta 686 special which I’m tempted at buying it’s in quite good condition for its age . It’s got a gold oval positioned on the bottom of the grip and not in the usual place on the bottom of the stock .Ive never seen an oval positioned on the bottom of the grip before .Im going back Monday to look at it again and will probably be coming home with it

Is it in an auction, private sale or public sale?

There were some 686s that came with a circular escutcheon on the base of the pistol grip stocks. I can’t remember the exact models.

I got one for my son as a starter. It's a very early "Model S686 Special. Cross slots under action holding trigger plate in with no locking grub screw and fences are slightly different to later ones. with "escutcheon" let into the pitol grip. It's a 1980. All parts fit from new 686's so can still keep them running for years to come.
