12gauge82
So I'm looking to get a Night vision add on for my air rifle for shooting rats and rabbits. I don't want to spend too much as mainly for a sub 12ftlb air gun although I might try it on the rim fire if it's good enough for the extended range. The ones I've got my eye on are the scope mate nvs 20 or 30 and sytong ht 66 or 77. Anyone got any experience of both makes and have any input as to which is better, or any other suggestions? Weihrauch17
If you have a side focus scope a Pard 007, I have used one for years and for a cost efficient option on an Airgun or Rimfire they are great.
oldypigeonpopper
Hello, The Sytong are on special offer with Optics Warehouse and good warranty, A Side Focus or AO scope required
steve_b_wales
Regarding using a side focus scope, it's the best to use with any add on NV, but I have also used one with a fixed scope, albeit the clarity wasn't as good.
12gauge82
Appreciate all the advice and suggestions. The scope I'm planning to add it to is a fixed scope, although for the ratting I'll be shooting from a fixed position so hopefully I can set and forget the scope for that. I looked at the pads and the sytongs appear as good but a fair bit cheaper. The scopemate and sytong are around the same price so was wondering if anyone has had a direct comparison of the two, or input as to which would be best. Dave-G
Scope lenses focus at a different distance when using IR light than in daylight (closer if I remember correctly) and NV is much harder to guesstimate than in daylight. This is more important for loopy subsonic/air projectiles than flat one's such as the more forgiving HMR. There will be a distance where a fixed focus scope will be in good focus - showing good definition of IR reflected eyeshine but either side of that distance the eyeshine gets progressively more blurred: If you can determine that sharp focus distance and zero your rifle at that distance it can be used as a sort 'at the zeroed range' confirmation. Thanks for the recommendation. I've seen the scopemate nvs 30 and was very impressed as it is a similar price. I'd hate to buy one and find the other has a better image. There's probably not much in it, but I like to do my research before I buy anything 😅
12gauge82
And to complicate matters further I've just noticed the ht77 and the Discovery Optics NV001. Too much choice 🤯
oldypigeonpopper
Hello, There is with any night vision, You just need to get what your going to be happy using, A lot depends on how much night shooting your looking to do but with an add on once set up , then easy to take off and use a day scope, Or you may be better with a Day/ Night vision scope like the HT 60 , A N/V night spotter is also worth considering
