BobbyH
Hey all, Me and the wife were talking and came onto the subject of moving abroad, Spain, Germany etc and we spoke about USA. Has anyone relocated from the UK to the USA, or even Spain or Germany? Is it worth it, was it hard? what’s required?
enfieldspares
Before Brexit of course you had an absolute right to relocate to any other EU Member State subject to being able to support yourself without recourse to public funds. That latter was ALWAYS the rule. yet we in the UK chose not to enforce it and so caused the friction that Farage et al were able to use. Them referencing certain groups coming here from former Warsaw Pact nations and then claiming and being granted British benefits. In the USA "money talks" and I would seek advice from them that know more than I. My only advice would be that in some states a certain minimum level of health insurance is compulsory and enforced by law. It will not be sense to rely on your UK Global Health Insurance Card (the old EHIC or E111). However the good news is that they mostly speak what passes as English in the USA! Now post-Brexit your residency rights and employment rights in the EU are curtailed. We are in effect, thanks to Johnson and his "easiest deal" no more right to permanently live or work there than a Chinese, an Indian, an Australian, a Canadian or a whoever from wherever. As we are in essence if taking up employment there "stealing wages from a European Citizen's pocket". However the exception in the EU is Ireland where under the 1922 Anglo Irish Treaty we have an absolute right to settle and to work. Why on earth do you think people should have the right to live in any country they choose. Thank god we're out!

Thank god we're out! Thank god we’re out? Immigration is worse post Brexit, we’ve yet to experience any / many of the so called benefits and our economy has suffered enormously. Whether the promise / principal may have been good at what point do we have to admit it’s been a shambles?

Whether the promise / principal may have been good at what point do we have to admit it’s been a shambles? The immigration problem has nothing to do with Brexit. It's been a shambles because we haven't had any true leave MPs running government and I didn't vote for Brexit based on immigration, although it has paved the way for us to do something about it and leave the ECHR, something we couldn't do while an EU member. The UK is at least free to choose its own path, we just need to stop voting clowns into power. Thank God we left!

The UK is 'free' to "choose it's own path", but our politicians - and in particular the present incumbents choose not to follow a separate path. Starmer will (during his 5 years) align us so closely with the EU that we have most of the penalties and no advantages. But that was who the electorate chose.
