CO2 rifles and temp variations.

It's not an exact science, but it will fluctuate down and up according to air temperature and many other variables. In short, it's very complicated to be exact.

I've seen a c02 air rifle zeroed early am,,,, out shooting rabbits a few hours later on a hot day,,,, 4 shots at one rabbit before it realised something wasn't right,,,, all shots passing over its head due to higher pressure in the capsule. It's not an exact science,,,, ask that lucky rabbit 😆

Hello, Yes i know those Air magnums, I use to keep the 88s in a bag same with the small C02  capsules with a hand warmer in the side pocket, But not to hot,   You can change to HPA Air with a small Paint Ball air tank if you have the means to fill , Pump, Air Cylinder, PCP compressor, The 88 should get about 120/150 shots,

If you are only plinking in the back garden, say, and the rifle starts at room temperature, you would need to be out a fair while for it to cool down (or indeed heat up) for it to significantly affect your aim.

I find with my .22 SMK and 12g capsules that it makes no odds.

I just can't hit the target anyway.

Good info, thanks, yes I have a few pcp's so filling air is not a problem. Will do some research.

Hello, I i remember you can take off the Forend and screw in a Paint Ball air tank or you may need an Adapter, I used one like that on rats but it was many many years ago, Search on Google, I have just changed a SMK XS 79 to HPA now in Sales

I would say on a cold night (maybe 2 - 5 degrees  ) compared to your usual 18 degree day temp. You could be looking at a 50 %energy  drop .

So say your 9 fpe gun could now be doing as little as 4.5 - 5 fpe .with a massive drop in poi. even at close ranges like 15 yds .

I stopped using co2 for winter ratting for exactly that reason .

Ok she's stripped down and I don't think I lost any bits!! There are springs! Going to get some seals ordered but I suspect the main culprit is likely to be the bottle seal in the bottom of the firing valve gone hard. Going to be fun getting it back together
