Wasn't that hungry today so I done my pork chop tonight , stuck it in the slow cooker for a couple of hours and then finished it off under the grill , chopped the cabbage up as J K D don't like it in a big piece and then had a piece of the Apple pie with custard , verdict , just alright although the Apple pie was nice .

Do you ever put a drop of vinegar on the cabbage?

No , once it all go on the plate then that is it , I done some lovely gravy but for some reason it look like it had started to snow on the photo , it might had been the steam that came off , here it is ,  MM

pork chops arnt easy to do correctly ....very much hit and miss and the quality of the meat.....

Belly pork is much easier to deal with

Weather it is just my imagination but pork in general don't taste the same now than it did when I was a youngster , we often had a leg of pork joint and it seemed it tasted better then than it do now , we have spent good money and it have been tough and tasteless and then bought a cheap joint and it wasn't to bad , that is why I put it in the slow cooker first and then under the grill , but taking in account the amount of time it took then it might be a while till I do it again .

Tomorrow night I am going to be waited on as it is our shoot dinner , I am  having roast beef with Apple pie and ice cream , you would think I have had enough of Apple pies

try this next time.....

  1. fry chops until they colour
  2. fry onions
  3. cut carrots
  4. add to slow cooker
  5. add tin of mushroom soup
  6. add a bit of water
  7. leave it to cook 2-3 hours

serve with mash or spuds and finely chopped cabbage.......

cant get simpler than that...:good:

Tender wise they were fine but they didn't have a great deal of colour when they came out of the slow cooker so I put them under the grill until they browned up a bit , they were alright but only just alright , the veg I done was fine along with the Apple pie but the pork  will now go on the back burner , mind you I might have to borrow T Cs back burner , he is sure to have one

I have got one left so I will try it out when I am using the oddments up , I am not over keen on bacon now so I won't be buying a lot of pork , even if it heavily reduced ,  well it all depends on how much reduced

Looks nice MM, i have to agree about the taste nothing like it used to taste. Its down to mass production, find yourself a decent butchers who has a supply of small farm home reared pigs, the difference will take you back to your teenage years believe me.

I have to agree with ditchy regarding the belly pork, or even the shoulder chops, (regional names vary so much, spare rib chops, neck chops) the fat running through explodes with flavour.

My favourite cut of pork was what we used to call hand of pork, (shoulder) with the bone left in, it was always a decent size joint but there wasnt much left after a dinner.

found a link to the cut here ( Linky )
