I attend a few Auctions, not the Sotheby types, or the dodgy bankrupt stock ones, but the ones that regularly take place in village halls around where I live, organised by local people.

I viewed the Dymchurch one yesterday afternoon and went back at 6.00 pm , as I had my eye on something.

An hour later I left with a brand new , sealed in the box (although I did open it and inspect it) super slim Canon CanoScan LiDE80 Scanner...................................................it cost me £2 !!!!! :good:

Nobody else was interested and there was no "reserve".

Anyone else had some good auction buys ?

My mate got me 5 12v 7ah Yuasa (?) batteries, brand new in boxes for a fiver from the one in Salisbury.

The bloke he went with picked up a working (you are allowed to start them up) Stihl chainsaw for £20.

The problem is these are always weekday affairs, so not easy to get to, which may explain the bargin fest.

I stumbled across one of those country, agricultural, clear-out-the-barn type of auctions years ago. I acquired an old cast iron Victorian mangle  :look:

It was a very ornate one, in immaculate condition, handle included and everything working, and the wooden rollers looked as though they'd never been used.

I paid about £2 or £3 quid for it, as nobody else was interested :good:

I believe my ex-wife got hundreds of quid for it after we split up. This Victoriana kitchenalia **** seems very popular with the Bohemian yuppy types :lol:

There was something very interesting at that auction, that was getting a lot of interest and bids - old cast iron tractor seats :sick:

Some of them were very ornate and were fetching good prices. Amazing what people collect

Regularly attend myself...get some bits of nice old furniture now and again (get some surprising stuff coming up on the freecycle website too :good:), but my little brother once got a brand new oven (literally bought for an old dear who then died) for £5!

we picked up two massive signed oil paintings from a general sale in liverpool for just under £40.00 for the two.

went home, found out about the guy who painted them, Fred Wilde, had a mooch on the net and found two paintings of his about 1/4 of the size that sold a few years ago for just over £200.00 each !!

bought some old ghetto blaster stereos last year from flea markets, dearest one was £7.00, sold on fleabay for just over £120.00 !!
