Dead-Eyed Duck
I have a Sako Varmint 0.22 rimmy, plus an Annie thumbhole hmr. In an ideal world I would get the new heavy barrel Sako quad with a thumbhole stock. The small magazine (4 round) on the Annie is a pain in the butt, as is the stiff safety catch and the fact that if you do not put the bolt fully down after loading it will not fire - a small point but annoying. However, the thumbhole stock is beautiful and does aid handling. I like the plastic mag on the Sako (I presume it is the same on the quad), plus it has a larger capacity than the 4 rounds on the Annie. I would bet that there is nothing between the accuracy on both rifles. I did seriously think of swapping the Annie for the new quad, and if I could fire one before purchase I would probably do so. But I do love the thumbhole stock........ I do think that the change barrel feature on the quad is just a gimmick, and would never do so. webber
I have the same Anschutz rifle as Don. I agree with him that the magazine capacity is a little limiting, but contrary to popular belief, I am not quite so tight as some members would have you believe. I therefore purchased an additional magazine; true, I did feel that the price was extorsionate, but I also felt that the same when I purchased a spare magazine for my Sako. I also think that the thumb hole stock (British made), transforms a most excellent rifle, and have no desire to swap it for an alternative rifle, although I accept that Don has more rifle experience than myself. Don If you want to borrow my spare mag, and see how you go; you have my number. webber

Dave-G
I've neither found nor heard of any problems with the Quad in HMR guise. The bolt locks oh-so-sweetly after minimal movement - apparently it has a tiny 40 degree cranking action, and it's not so "clicity-click" as the Annie. The 5 round mag sits flush so does not snag anything. Safety is almost silent and very much where the thumb wants it to be. Obviously easy to remove barrel for cleaning. Feels great. Spent shells are ejected cleanly - my brothers annie has a habit of empties hitting the scope and bouncing back as he closes the action. I have the synthetic stock and don't worry about scuffing it. Hi I have the sako with the synthetic stock.I find its a great rifle and have not had any trouble with it or heard of people who have.It is very accurate I got it for a very good price as it was demo gun.Think the price of the ammo is extorshinate but thats what we have to pay I guess. Aldo
The only "issue" that I had with my synthetic Quad in 22lR + 17 Mach2 is that the butt pad is plastic (not rubber) It's not a big problem and I sorted it by installing a decent rubber one (needs a little modifying to make it fit) which also added about an inch on the "reach" Once had a 7mm group at 120 yards (with Mach2) so accuraccy is not in question. Oly
IMO I would never touch a Sako Quad, just really don't like stories I hear of them not retaining zero etc. HOWEVER, I would have an old rimfire Sako of the Finfire range anyday! Out of all rifles though I would ALWAYS have an Anschutz...any day of the week! If I had to sell all my guns my Anschutz would be the last to go!
