By all accounts it is a complete nightmare for them and I believe the goverment want to do a u turn over competition handgun shooting in the uk. There is to be a limited 'climb down' by the Government in time for 2012. Pistols can be used as long as they are plastic and do not, in any way, look 'real'; they must also have a bright orange 'nose' and a flag which says 'BANG' when the trigger is pulled. (Gold Medals can be fashioned from chocolate money.) FH what a place we live in!
sidibear
Just make up an olympic shooting team comprised of drug dealer pimp gansta's we would have a chance then I am not even going to suggest what the targets could look like
Guest The Outlaw
The only non air powered pistols allowed now are the ones used as humane killers for livce stock and starting pistols. As has already been said our pistol team have to store and practice outside the Uk. What amazes me is nearly all gun crime is committed by illeagal weapons not registered and well looked after "tools" Has gun crime fallen since this stupid law came in? I doubt it . gibby
The only non air powered pistols allowed now are the ones used as humane killers for livce stock and starting pistols A number of people are now getting them passed for dispatch of deer, have a good shooting friend in the process of variation for one. I doubt it . Tony You can bet your life the government didn't see it coming despite everyone telling them that banning legally held guns wouldn't make any difference. I read someone that just after the ban shotgun ownership fell by 30% and gun crime went up by 60%. But this argument would need a new thread rather than hijacking this one
gibby
Do they have to be on a FAC? Yes they do have to be on FAC. As you can imagine they do want to drag their feet on this one, and the option my frined has been given is for a .32. Part of the arguement he has put in for one is that he will then be on call to the police for deer that need to be dispatched due to a road accident, so the police can call him up and he will go and dispatch. Wookie
I think handguns are still legal on some of the the channel islands, but I could be wrong. I know my brother in law used to have to go to Scandinavia to practice with his pistol. In the end it got too much of a pain and he sold it and gave up. A shame really as my sister was getting good at it by that time and might have had a shot (pardon the pun) at a national team place.

Was there this year and got talking to one of their Honourary Policeman (strange legal system over there) and he said the Island was full of firearms - quite a lot of Germany ones, apparently. Harnser
do your police officers not czrry side arms? Routinely, no. We not of course have Armed Officers, deployed on a 'as needed' bases. Hand gun ownership is still allowed in the channel isles ,and believe it or not ,northern island .My good friend travels regulary to ulster and has jpind a pistol club there and shoots pistol to his hearts content . Mick gault who has won more medals for pistol shooting than anybody else was training in switzerland .I dont know if he is still training there as i havent seen him for a while . An interesting article was published in my local paper a couple of months ago ,stating that Norwich (where i live ) has the lowest number of gun crimes in the uk .What it didnt say was that norfolk has the highest number of registered firearms and shotguns in the whole of the country .What does that tell you . The handgun ban was the worst bit of knee-jerk legislation of all time .implemented by lazey pompous ,lying ,inadequet ,paracetic politicions vying votes from an uninformed electorate . I am sorry for going on like this but to mention the hand gun ban really gets me going . Harnser .

If we do get gold medals in 2012, I am sure we will be told that the ban has not harmed our chances - and some twit will prob suggest the same for clay-shooting. jcbruno
it is bloody rediculouse there is people here trying to do the same thing, you guys got to start a movement to de-restrict guns in the uk, i will buy a basc membership to help suport you guy's , it is never to late to start fighting back, at the very least, if you make a fuss then at least the antis will be buisey trying to deny your fight for de-restricting guns they will be to buisey to restrict more guns, its your country it is still a democracey make yourself herd dont adopt a defeatest atitude and prey they wont come for the rest of your guns, and refuse to allow more bans unite and fight.
