Cranfield
Is NOBS a profit making Organisation now ?
dazza
They charge £5 for membership. Mark Elliott seem to do all right out off it, he seems to have his pic in all the magazines attending all the top game shoots. I heard there going to be offering shooting insurance soon. 'NOBs works by linking up gamekeepers or shoot captains with beaters, pickers up or loaders in their area. Firstly people need to register (Membership fee of £5 per annum starting 1 Feb 06 - £10 for shoots/game keepers) by clicking on the register button and selecting the correct form for them depending on who they are (you can register in more than one category - Only one payment required)'
Iaindp
No I don't think so Cranfield. I don't really know a great deal about them but I registered when they first popped up and they keep sending emails about beating. Don't know whether I've slipped through the net coz you're supposed to pay to be a member now and I've never paid anything! They seem to do a reasonable job if the magazines are to be believed (they've got a regular slot in ST now). I've never been beating off the back of one of their emails but I'll have to give it a try some time. Anyone else a member of NOBS? Well you can ask the question here and not get banned............I just did. I remember the humble start up of NOBS and looking at their website now, it does look as though there is some money about. True, but even when I questioned their approach on here, some time ago I admit and in responce to another question about their finances, I was also banned/threatened with a ban. I dont frequent their forum often now, to be honest there are far better such as Pigeon Watch, Airgun BBS and Sportingcountryside. But I am not going to get embroiled in another public NOBS argument, the last one was enough with far too many nasty pm's flying around. Life is too short for such agro! The idea of ***'s is great, but I have concerns. Jerry
henry d
I got 4 membership cards and informed them so after each one and got the "circular" after each one" Sorry, blah blah!" Ideals are good but it seems to be a dis-jointed effort so far.

Dunkield
I don't know how much profit there would be from a fiver from each person, they will have running costs (fairly minimal) but I would have thought there are far easier ways of making money? I got the letters/emails but just ignored them, wasn't the payment volentary? (of course if I had read the letters I would know )
dazza
I'm sure the membership fee is compulsory

Cranfield
Don't the Shoots also pay something to them ? There is no way that a few hundred fivers are paying for what I see.
dazza
ask on the ***'s forum and receive an immediate ban

Dunkield
Well I asked, but with 27(!) sections it was hard finding somewhere to stick it. Just bare that in mind when we get requests for "how about another section for..."
dazza
don't worry they won't be long telling you where to stick your post
Whitebridges
Being a simple country boy, I can't quite get my head around this. Why do folk want to pay to be "registered" to beat game? I thought there was a shortage of beaters?
Dunkield
Depends where abouts you live WB. Where I live, I have to ask if I can beat at our local shoot, even at this time of year, and they don't need any more people at weekends at any time of the year. Anyways from their forum, a civil answer to a perfectly reasonable question: "You need to register and pay a fiver to benefit from the organisation and get beating or ask for beaters. The forum is Free for all"
Whitebridges
Ah I see Stuart. I suppose it must depend on the number of chimney pots in each area and supply and demand.
