I have an Astra sportive van that had a replacement engine (Isuzu engine) and since installed the van has been sluggish (it struggles to get over 80mph, and is totally usless on hills, I know desiels are bad but this is the sport model that should have 120hp!) we have tried every thing that we can think of to resolve it engine management not replaced and still original gear box not changed timing OK air flow sensor replaced de-catted there are no fault codes showing even during driving Any idea's? lurcherboy Posted January 10, 2008 Report Share Posted January 10, 2008 Your probably taking a bit of air in somewhere on the fuel deliver line. It is very common on Ford diesels and despite the fact that diesels won't start if air is in the lines they can and do. It is always a good idea to disconnect them, blow them through, and the outlet port from the tank then change all the copper sealing washers (if you have them) and then use a accelerator like brake cleaner at all the joints to see if it changes the engine speed. ROBLATCH Posted January 11, 2008 Report Share Posted January 11, 2008 you say you replaced the turbo ? has the turbo been split and the springs and retainers been cleaned ? this can cause the problem but the car normaly loses power or stall due to the turbo been stuck open! try squirtin wd40 over the fuel liners and pipes whilst ticking over ,if the engine starts to rev a little higher the problem lies on that fuel line - leakage. i would also try a bottle of D.A.E excelent stuff at cleaning and stopping smoke'y engines. Turbo has been confirm as working correctly and spinning up when it should re the ecu.. I wish your were right as that's what it feels like, but it's the original unit...... al4x Posted January 11, 2008 Report Share Posted January 11, 2008 You say its the Isuzu engine, I've not run astra vans for a few years but the old Isuzu ones we had were prone to head gasket failure these normally got faster the more times the head was skimmed but if it is the same 1.7 engine then it may be worth getting the compression checked. al4x Posted January 11, 2008 Report Share Posted January 11, 2008 If its the same engine they can be skimmed 3 times before you need a new head, Generally though once they go they drink water like its going out of fashion. Ours with lots of motorway work went about every 40K and you had to carry water with you when they were on the way out. We were one of the reasons vauxhall revoked their unlimited mileage policies on comercial vehicles as ours were doing 200K by the time they were out of warranty Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Griff36 Posted January 11, 2008 Report Share Posted January 11, 2008 If the pump is O.K it sounds like an injector problem, have you tried bleeding the injectors one at a time when the engine is running? Crack open the injector pipes one at a time and rev the engine to 5000 rpm the result should be equal for all 4 cylinders. if you get better performance from 1 set of the 4 then you have a dodgy injector. Injectors have a number of pin size holes which the fuel is injected from, 3 out of the 4 (normally) can be blocked and the engine will still tickover and run under light power, the crunch comes under load when there is insufficent fuel to create the power required.
