Still waiting  Please tell me it ain't going to take 5 months It amazes me how different police forces vary so greatly in processing time for sgc's. I think a rethink of the process is in order i know they are getting busier and busier, but surely the checks don't take that long for everyone. If so phone them up and ask how they are doing with it - just remember you are paying for a service! One thing that delays certs the most (so my contact tells me) is them not being able to get hold of your reference person. They don't tend to sit there trying and trying, file comes to the top, open it up and try calling and if nobody there back to the bottom. Just call them, ask if they have had any bother getting in contact, if they have try and give them another number or the best time to catch them in - I heard of someone getting the reference to call the FEO... Andy W
Mine took a few months and I am also in Stoke on Trent, I rang Fireama Administartion Unit twice and they gave me the number for our local FEO who I then called, he did not have my application with him but on return to his office he dug it out of the pile and made an appointment with me immediately. Dont delay, dont feel that you have no right to phone them up, they are all really friendly and the guy who comes to check us out is a real nice bloke, not sure if I am allowed to say his name on here. Who has to contact your referee is it the local police force or the firearms officer that comes around your house for a inspection. Reason i ask is that my cheque was cashed a month ago so i rang my FLO to see where i stood and he said that he hadn't recieved my details so couldn't come around for the visit. I just wondered what order things are done in, the cheque and form are sent to the Thames Valley HQ, where the cheque is cashed then i assume all the background checks must be done, is that correct. I just wondered can i get my Referee to call someone incase they haven't be able to contact him. I'm also slightly confused because when i spoke to the FLO he said that after the visit it takes about 2 months to process, just wondered why some people seem to get the all clear and the SGC is with them in a few weeks. al4x
the cheque will be cashed by the admin side, who then pass the file to the FLO for the checks and visit. Odds are its sitting on a desk somewhere in a large pile!
duey
It all depends on the size of the force and how many staff are in the office, because the SGC & FAC are now on the national database it is limited to 'TRAINED' personnel only to input the details. My renewal took just over 3 months for this very reason whereas before it was done in a matter of weeks. best is to phone up and ask how things are going regularly. duey
Can work both ways I'm afraid, try and get a reasonable expected date out of you FLO, then nearer that time chase again Good luck Ian
BrowningBoy
Thames Valley Police Quote 60 working days (12 weeks) for processing applications, from my conversations with them today I'm looking at a total of 14 weeks but xmas got in the way I guess

Guest
I applied for my ticket (new grant) back in early October, FEO came out early December, said no worries, will be with you before Christmas and I still haven't heard anything! West Mercia Police, and one license holder and gun already in the household.
