Hodmedod.one
Because the ground is so wet at the moment getting around in the Fourtrak is impossible. Even though it was pouring down and windy last night me and ***** the Lampmeister decided to have a walk around. We were walking along the stewardship strip on the edge of a field with the hedge to our left. The track curved to the left and as we walked around there was a strip of low Game Cover bordering the right side of the stewardship strip. ***** shone the lamp (red filter fitted) and directly in front of us at about 10 yards we both saw something moving towards us in the cover. All I could see was a pair of pointed ears. I whispered "Fox". I got the .243 off my shoulder and flipped up the scope covers. By this time the fox was about 3 yards from us! It seemed totally unconcerned by the light and was walking slowly to our right. I shouldered the rifle but because the fox was so close all I could see through the scope was an unfocussed red blur. I swung the rifle through where I thought the fox was and managed to see movement in front of the crosshairs so took the shot. A nice young Vixen that won't be breeding this season. al4x
if it happens again look down the side of the barrel, I had a close encounter with a lot of rats last year at a similar range with the hmr and the only way to do it was to look down the side as the scope was next to useless. very effective though as we had about 20 they were everywhere

Hodmedod.one
Them long range ones sure are tough to nail! Well done Hod  Wish someone would start releasing foxes near me She was in good condition so I don't think she had been released. It was a dirty old night with a full moon and the wind in our favour. I think she just wasn't paying attention. We've heard several dog foxes barking recently so maybe her mind was on lurve. tikkamark
if it happens again look down the side of the barrel, Happened me a few times as well when they come in under 20 yards they tend to be a blur so as alex said tilt the rifle sideways and aim the rifle like a shotgun works well once you have a safe backstop But well done hod on that bullet placement she was'nt going far after that
