why we are accepted to shoot

strange question but do you find that farmers oblige in letting you shoot on there land just to let you shoot or to do them a favour

also when asking to shoot vermin do you also ask to shoot pheasant?

Mainly pigeons and rabbits. - You are doing them a favour by protecting their crops!

Can't imagine a farmer allowing you to take pheasants, unless its towards the end of the season and they want the males thinned out to stop straying?

I think it depends very much on the farmer. Most allow you to shoot because they need someone to control the vermin, and you do it for free. I have two permissions that let me shoot because they're just kind people. They have little trouble with pests but still let me shoot anyway.

I only do Vermin shooting. To be honest I am lucky and they dont actually expect me to be out all the time, however, I like to give them results and always text what I have killed.

Im the same. Farmer had a vermin problem so was happy to let me shoot on his land. I always text my results and try to get there on a regular basis regardless of weather. ( usually comfy shooting from my fourtrak anyway!)..

All the farmers i shoot for want pests shot and lots of it. They have my number, and i often get calls to ask when i will next be up and can i sort suchandsuch. When i arrive at a farm and the farmer mentions a problem area i will go and have a look at it nomatter what i had previously planned.

Its all part of free shooting. I do bits on the farms to help out when asked, and am pretty lucky in that i work shifts so have spare time in the week. It always makes me chuckle when people want to mooch about on someones farm every now and again, bagging a couple for the pot, then for "ethical reasons" wont shoot in spring or summer. Then lose their shooting.

Spring and summer are the times when pests are breeding with a vengance and causing damage. My farmers would take a pretty dim view if i said thats me done, see you in the winter.

I was offered a bit of walked up pheasant this season on one farm which was nice. Free. I took a few for Christmas. :good:

A farmer near me has about 10 big fields with COWS NOT CROP and his cows arn't even out often. I walk the dog almost everyday but the fields are empty or only one of the fields have cows in? do pigeons, crows and magpie pose a threat to cows? lol seriously tho are birds pests to livestock/livestock fields? I can't exactly say 'I want to do some pest control shooting' if there are no pests. Ive seen crows, magpies and loads of wood pigeon on his fields and i'm feening for a shot at a few do you think its worth an ask if i can just shoot some pigeon to eat or will i just look cheeky?
