Sundowner
I just wondered, is it worth trying to set up in a field with a bird scarer in use? I know they are still coming in, but less of them? Anyone?
hawkeye
just switch it off they will come in then switch on again when finished shooting..
Catamong
It all depends on how long the banger's been on, if it's only been there a day or so, do as Hawkeye says and you might get lucky, if it's been there any longer, the birds will all have gone somewhere a bit less noisy, so they'll be nothing to shoot at anyway. Mutley
Depends how big the field is? if it's a large field set up well away from it and leave the banger switched on, it will keep the birds on the move.
Cranfield
On a lot of larger fields we have all seen the banger go off, the pigeons lift up one foot and then drop down again, for another 20 minutes uninterrupted feeding. I normally have some string bangers in the truck which I will place at the far end of large fields, or on adjoining fields, to try to keep the birds moving. This rarely causes them to leave the district, but a banger going off just as birds are setting for the decoys can fluster them, although they rarely seem to know where the bang has come from and soon return. anser2
It can depend on how heavy the shooting pressure is on your local pigeons. One one farm where I shoot the pigeons are very jumpy at the sound of a banger as several people shoot pigeons on the next door farm. On the other hand on a rape field on another farm in an area where little shooting goes on the pigeons played little attention to a banger until i had shot them 3 times. Pigeons are only frightened of a bang it the bang gives them something to be frightened of , ie , they assiocate the sound with being shot at. mr smith
The Bangers did not seem todo anything...think i scared them more with my Shottie I think over use of the banger means they don't scare them much, however the different bang of the shottie never fails.
