radio1ham
mine states the 22 rifle with s/m and 22 ammo shall be used for shooting vermin and for zeroing on ranges or land deemed suitable by cheif officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawfull authority to shoot i wonder if this is an open ticket also
tulkyuk
Nope thats a closed ticket - as in you can only shoot on land that has been passed for your calibre and which you have permission to shoot over Where as an open ticket will let you shoot your rifle on land which you have permission to shoot over, the onus is on you to then deem it safe to shoot the calibre you are using ( this makes it easier on the police if theres an accident, as they have not passed the land - its all down to you) Edited February 24, 2008 by tulkyuk
radio1ham
i now have 2 farms to shoot over would that qualify me for an open ticket even tho they are next door to each other i wonder i asume the later of the 2 should be ok for firearms as the old guy who died last year also had .22 fac aswell, i assume i wud be ok using it on his land also
tulkyuk
They tend to give you an open ticket after at least 3 years of shooting experiance ( some police forces differ though) Because your other bits of land have already been passed, you can shoot there no problem, but just check with your FLO first to make sure
radio1ham
ok thanks for your help il fone them in morning to find out if il be ok thanks again ive held sgc for nealy 20 years now and fac coming up to 5 years so hopefuly i may get an open ticket with any luck fingers crossed Edited February 24, 2008 by radio1ham
tulkyuk
if you have held your fac 5 years and its up for renewal, they will normally 'open' it up automaticlly at renewal stage - but because you have got plenty of experiance now, you can ask them to open it now and i doubt very much they will refuse you. good luck
radio1ham
ok cheers another question if ok if the lands i shoot over are demmed suitable and i want a suitable caliber for foxe control will both lands need to be inspected again or would the written consent of land owners be enough
tulkyuk
They will need to be checked - unless it has already been passed

njc110381
If it's not long until your renewal, leave the centrefire until later. Put a note in saying you've wanted open for a few months but thought you'd save them the bother of doing it twice. They'll appreciate it and a bit of brown nosing never hurts I'm not sure whether asking for a bigger gun and open at the same time is a good plan? Someone more experienced than myself may wish to comment on this? I'd ask for open then get a variation later I think. It may cost you £30, but it gives you a greater chance of getting what you want. Not true - they can still 'close' your centrefire rifle and let you have an 'open' ticket on your rimfire

I have had .22RF for 30+ yrs with an open tkt and when I applied for .223 CF they said I had to have a closed tkt for "at least 6 months, and buy lots of ammo" I waited the 6 months, shot lots of paper and aquired more land then hit them with checking the land which was over different parts of kent, they opened my tkt rather than check all the parcels of land most of which were sheep farms. They tend to treat CF very seriously, I would go along the route of getting the RF tkt opened first. D2D

cubix
Hi All Could I ask those of you who come under the Northumbria Police area how long your FAC application took to process? and what did you feel their general attitude was towards shooters? Best.
radio1ham
hi cubix well it only took around 5 weeks from them receieving my application to get mine sorted out which i believe is pretty quick and the attitude of them was great i have never had any problems with fac or sgc and they are always very helpfull if you need to ask them anything i foned them today to let them know about my 2nd permission to shoot on with my 22rimfire and they just said i need to get written permission and post it inn to them so they can do a check on the land so with fingers crossed they should pass the 2nd permission
