Blackbart
I went to my main police station yesterday to get some application forms for fac and sg as i am going to apply for them to run together because at the moment one runs out in 3 month and the other in 10 month so i might aswell save a few quid and have them "coter-whatever"The lass on the reception gave me a blank stare when i asked for the 2 forms and then said can you waite 10 minutes? After about 5 mins she come back and said i have had a word with an officer and he says "you have to go to the main police station in the centre of newcastle and ask to speak to the chief inspector"To which i actually laughed and said"why on earth have i got to go and see him i only want some application forms"I informed her the officer was wrong and i just wanted the forms to send in to the firearms dept at phq.She still looked puzzled and went and got this officer, who came out with a right attitude on him and said"What do you want"I told him exactly what i wanted and even described what the forms looked like,to which his reply was "thats all we need more guns on the street"!!I was gobsmacked at his response and told him so and an argument ansued along the lines of i havent done anything wrong and i am only asking for a piece of paper so why the hostile attitude and he was wrong about having to go and see the chief inspector. To cut to the chase another girl came into reception and found the forms straight away and i smuggly waved them at the officer and left(so i can probably expect some spot fines soon) When i left there i wondered if he was an anti or just one of those coppers you some times meet that have a permanent attitude problem and treat everyone they talk to as a criminal. P.S can i have the farmer as a caracter reference for fac aswell as sending permission letter?
bob300w
Anyone else needing an application form, just phone HQ, they will post you one. Yes, you can have your farmer as both. Unfortunatly your experience is typical, rather than a one-of, as most SGC and FAC paperwork is done from HQ, very few of the uniformed crowd get to deal with the forms. Your "anti" may well have been joking, they do get a very perverse sense of humour, comes from having to deal with people tanked up on drugs and waving guns and knives at them! moses
Why not just print them out from the website, a lot less hassle all round. http://www.met.police.uk/firearms-enquiries/forms.htm
cubix
Hindsight being a perfect science! I might have asked him what evidence he had for the accusation that I intended to take my guns out onto 'the street'? That's a bit of an unprovoked personal attack on you, in public by someone who is in a position of considerable authority, and who should be setting a good example. Can you not complain ? It hardly encourages good practice/realtions when people who go out of their way to stay inside the law are treated as though they are outside it. If my FAC comes through I don't intend telling anyone I have firearms - there's too much knee-jerk, lazy thinking around. What was that film ? - 'the funny thing is, on the outside I was an honest man. I had to come to prison to become a crook.' CBX

Blackbart
If i had been a first time applicant,i probably would have been down newcastle to see the chief who i am sure would have said "what the **** you asking me for forms for"
cubix
I know they face the brunt of it when villains use guns, but I'm sure more police get injured as a result of drunk drivers every year and you don't get that attutude from the govt when you apply for a driving licence. At heart I'm a libertarian and I get twitchy about any one person having power or authority over another by virtue of their position. Assuming that a person cannot be trusted with no good reason is bad, but when it's a person in authority doing it it's very worrying.
