sunshinedave
Well, after a lot of initial delay with my application, I have my FEO visit arranged for next week :o. I'm understandably nervous, I have a lot to do, buy and install the cabinet before next week, get the place tidy etc. Anything else I should be doing? I plan to have print-outs of my permission, with the boundaries indicated, footpaths, etc. The land is already approved, and is some distance away mind, but is there anything else I should be doing/have handy? Cheers! I hate interviews at the best of times!
bob300w
Don't panic Captain Mannering! If the land is already approved, it's unlikely that he will want to see your maps, although it will do no harm to show him anyway, it shows that you are taking it seriously. Phone him now, and ask him where he wants you to put the cabinet, and how he wants it secured to the building, that is the main purpose of his visit, to check your security. If you are in any doubt ask someone who has a license to help. You personally, will already have been checked with police records, it should be a formality if you have got this far. Course a cup of tea and a few doughnuts works wonders, they can't resist them! Edited March 13, 2008 by bob300w
pin
Best bit of advice I can give is this, DON'T TALK YOURSELF OUT OF IT! They do a lot of these, they have a routine so just let him/her get on with it! It's not an interview as such, it's more to check the cabinet as has been said, or to advise on location / security if it's not already there. Be polite, offer a cuppa, but don't get all nervous and gushy :o
clayman
They are usually not expecting the cab to be in place, as they may not like it where you want it. In most cases you can just agree the place fixings and type, and then confirm installation. If you pre-install, you risk them asking you to move it / buy different. Check by phone what the local policy is. No point in spending and mucking up a wall with bolt holes only to have to change it. Big_Sam
Firstly, don't bolt the cabinet in. Just put where you think it might go. Most FEO like the have the power of telling you where to put it. Secondly, the question that he will ask relate to the quiz they have to fill out. The questions are in the 3rd document in this thread on page 52 onwards: http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=23049 hope that helps! choke it
you should put the cabinet where you want it as long as it's bolted to a solid wall and not in full view of joe public it's not him who as to keep getting his gun's out of it plus if it's not bolted to the wall he will have to come back again to check when it is so that means you will be waiting longer for your fac. but hey what do i know :o

As long as it's well hidden and secure he should be ok with it. Don't put it too out of the way though, they like it to be easy enough to get to that you can put your guns away without too much bother. Don't panic about it, he's not going to ask you any real hard questions. In fact, mine didn't want to know much apart from did I have an alarm, security lighting outside, modern lockable windows etc (none of these are compulsory mind). I chatted on about shooting in general like I was talking to one of my mates, giving him some idea of my knowledge. He seemed fine with it. On another note. If you have an air rifle, put that in there for when he comes around. They (or at least mine) think it's very responsible to lock up something that doesn't really need it. It also shows you have a routine of putting your guns away when you've finished with them, which is a major factor in security.
triscrx
When my FEO came last week I just offered him a brew and I ended up interviewing him more than him me. I was asking how he got into what he did now & does he enjoy it. When he left I had a chuckle to myself as I was worried prior to him coming but when he left I thought to myself why did I worry. I had my shotgun cabinet in place but as this was for a co-terminous cert for my FAC I had bought my ammo cabinet but I hadnt fitted it when he visited. He just asked where it was going to be fitted and asked about the household security system. Otherwise it was just ascasual chat and he went over his paperwork to make sure there were no errors. Just be yourself and dont talk yourself out of it like it has been said above. Just answer what he ask's you really. :o

sunshinedave
Well, The day has been and gone. It went very well, the FEO was a top guy, really honest, straight to the point and very helpfull. He checked my cabinet out OK which I was pleased with after a fair few hours the day before inserting heavy duty plasterboard fixings into the wall, and four massive raw bolts into the concrete floor  Land was already approved so not a problem, asked a few questions as to whether I was of sound body and mind, who I shared my flat with (I assume to run a precautionary background check on them aswell). Said my HMR was fine, suitable for purpose, and I mentioned I had recently been lamping and that had I have done this prior to my application, I'd have asked for .22rf aswell - he said it was not a problem to add it at this point, and so I should have .22 and .17hmr on my ticket when it arrives in the future  Chuffed to be honest, I don't know what I was expecting, a hard time I guess, but it was painless One thing I forgot to ask though, he put down the .22 rimfire aswell, but would that include something like a Ruger 10/22 which is semi, or should I get a .22 CZ bolt action or similar? Cheers
njc110381
You can have any .22 you want, semi or bolt. Well done with the visit, we told you it would be fine didn't we
Head Shot USA
OK, I'm going to play really stupid. From what I gather you have to do this so you can have a fire arm in your posession on your own property. Is this correct? Are your gun control laws that strict? Color me stupid, but my my, my hat is off to ya and if you have to go through all that to enjoy your sport this one is for you. I guess you don't know how difficult things are for your neighbor until you listen to his story. Any way congrats on your approval  I hope things went well for ya. Best regards David ( Head Shot ) USA
