gdunc
Was giving me new camera a trial today after many years of using mobile phone cameras. It's my first one with full features but i'm just sticking to point and shoot at the moment. Can anyone reccomend a Coral or Photoshop type program which ain't mega expensive - i'm not really serious enough to justify big bucks but would like something which could, for example, edit out the twig which is in front of the dog's face in the last pic? bob300w
Photoshop elements 5 is not to bad in terms of cost or user friendliness! Stu Yep, that's what I use, bought at a sensible price on ebay. You will find it difficult, or at least very time consuming to edit things out like the twig, as when you edit out, you have to replace the item, in this case with dog! The twig appears to be over the eyes, which will make it more difficult. As you are using a digital, when taking pics, always take two or three, then use the best one. Big_Sam
Ah Bob you must be getting slow, took me just over 5 minutes even using the low res picture! I could do a far better job with the original.

TC Well spotted TC - she has Dai Bach as Gt Gt Grandparent on her dam's side! gdunc Wernffrwd Dia Bach died last year at the age of 14 he was owned by a mate of mine. I had the pleaseure of shooting woodcock over him on a few occations. Trouble is that you would get too engrossed watching the dog work, You never really knew if he was on a scent as he was 100 miles an hour all the time. Ron his owner and handler would not shoot just handle the dog and he could see the difference, if he could not warn us in time the woodcock would be up and away while I was still fumbling for the saftey. gdunc
It's always good to hear of how her ancestors worked, thanks for that TC Sounds like our Ellie has inherited his hard and fast hunting. I'm going to spend a bit of time out with her before the season starts working my shooting ground to assess how she reacts to scents and the flush so I have an idea what her tail is telling me when hunting. tiercel
Good idea, you would be surprised how many people have not a clue what the dog is telling them. I have had people telling me that pointers are fine, but they do not enter cover. They do but only if something is at home. Spaniels are different; they will enter any cover if there is something at home or not. It is up to the handler to get to know the dog and how it works. How it acts if there is fresh scent, stale scent and no scent. The differences are subtle it may only be a half beat of the tail every few seconds or so, but it is there.
