pegleg31
you need about 0.3 cubic meters
MC
If you do it in metric you want approx 3M x 2M x 0.05M Which is 0.3M3 or a third of a cubic metre. at say a 4 part sand to 1 part cement mix you will need 0.25M3 of snad and ballast and 0.06 of cement or approxiamately quarter of a ton of sand and a hundredweight of cement (2 x 25kg bags)

The Great Cornholio
A. so called, 1 tonne bag is supposed to be 1 cubic metre, but is often nearer 0.8 cubic metre. If you can find use for the left overs, then this is the cheapest way to buy sand/ballast. I would also recommend 4:1 mix Edited March 19, 2008 by The Great Cornholio
bobt
put paving slabs down, any slab you make at 2 inch will break up when it freezes, at least 4 inch on a stone bad is a minimum.
bignoel
4'' sl;ab 4 + 1 mix is strong enough add a drop of feb mix stops freezeing makes it easier to work with and as a precauation cover with hessian against frost.
