cappy0766
Is it really necessary to have 2 miles of cones down a dual carriageway, just to protect a 2-foot square hole? I find it a tad excessive and annoying!
Cranfield
They breed at an alarming rate. I have often thought that the Councils have nowhere to store them all and so they have to store them on the roads. The thing that makes me boil, is the stupid overhead and roadside illuminated signs that impose speed limits and warn about things that happened 24 hours ago. Can't anyone be bothered to keep these things uptodate ?

You obviously do not realise the importance of that 2 foot hole. Its a special hole   I do a lot of motorway driving and on accaisions I have seen police escorting a dignetory or polition of some sort. They have police motorbike outriders a mile in front clearing the outside lane. They then have more police outriders, then about four large rangerovers, a couple of large powerful cars and then bringing up the rear they have a few more motorbike outriders.. Six vehicles, six to eight motorbikes all traveling in excess of 80mph. All this to tranport someone important. taz. cappy0766
Its bloomin' bananas! They only get laid out at night, by an army of men on £25 an hour at the taxpayers expense! This bugs the hell out of me!

Axe
is the stupid overhead and roadside illuminated signs that impose speed limits and warn about things that happened 24 hours ago. Or when you have to strain through the fog to read Warning Fog! I don't know why we have such a fasination with cones. I would imagine however, that Cranfieldfascination may be more right than he jests. I'll bet that if all the cones were collected and put in to storage they would not have enough storage space. At the life span of a cone and the amount we use in this country, a wise person would start a cone making company.
bob300w
And of course with the Bank Holiday approaching, the cones will be out in force this week-end.

That way the loony left councils wuld make traffic deaprtments buy them and you would get repaeat orders every 3 months. Is this the right thread to post that my balls ache

sweepy
In regards to all your comments about the road cones guarding a hole it is all done because there are some motorist that are so dumb who can't read road signs, this is the reason that there maybe a very long approach of cones to certain roadworks. As i work every night in road works we have to have a good leave of safety and safety zones to protect us from the amount of idiot drivers on the road, even with this so called protection you who be amazed at the amount of workers who are killed and injured by motorist who think we are only there to be a complete pain in the ****,also the cones maybe there to allow for material hardening. So please remember that we are there to do a job not for your annoyance the amount of times we have people swearing and throwing items at us is not a joke we are only doing a job of work(I take it that nobody here would run through somebodies office calling them to**ers and throwing bricks at them) Sorry for my rant but if you have to put up with it every day/night you too would soon realize it sometimes ain't no fun being out there Sweepy

BSA Shaun
Think of the stopping distance at 70mph and those doing considerably more and you have your answer as to why the cones are so far back
