reedbradshaw
after recently aquiring my first bit of decent sized land ( 170 acres ) i have learnt that carrying a gun for miles and miles with a sling can be a pain ans start to hurt the arms ( maybe this is just me being a wimp i dont know! ) so i looked at slings. to be honest i wasnt that confident of drilling holes in my stock for the swivles, imagine drilling into the air chamber whilst its fully charged!!! so i went for a sling that requires no swivles and its for £6.00 it does the job. granted it doesnt look like a proper leather one as its nylon with a padded "real tree" strap. i got this off ebay but im told they have a shop called country man of derby. anyone else got any of these ? berettaman1
Actually Bud you are correct in what you say about people drilling straight through the forend of Precharged rifles to attach a swivel ! All you have to do on A Arms 400/410, or daystate X2 models is to unscrew just the one bolt to remove the stock!!you can then drill/attache the swivel to the forend refit the stock, with the one fixing bolt and away you go...Tony Wall at Sandwell Supplies has had many PC rifles in for a new air cylinder replacement because the owner of said gun was too idle to remove that one stock bolt. You just can't get the staff any more Ron, I saw a guy drill a hole in a piece of plywood once, whilst he was holding it on the top his thigh! His screams could be heard for miles. Dave-G
I would'nt fancy using a sling that lets a floating barrel bear the weight of a rifle. Does your rifle have a barrel band Reed?
HeadShotHoncho
Would one of these be all right for a HW80 cos it isn't half a pain to carry sometimes Thanks, HSH
reedbradshaw
I would'nt fancy using a sling that lets a floating barrel bear the weight of a rifle. Does your rifle have a barrel band Reed? That was my major concern at first look. But i have fixed it as close as i can to the stock to stop extra leverage on the barrel!! its also attached round the PCP cylinder so i think it should be ok. as when i carry the gun on my shoulder ( butt in the air, barrell to the floor ! ) i find that most of the weight is put straight on to the stock rather than the barrel. My rifle is relatively light in comparison with some others. but i wouldnt feel comfortable with just using th barrell alone to hold all the weight!!! ill send a pic when i can
Dave-G
I'm thinking you change the harmonics by squeezing the barrel towards the bottle if it HAS got a barrel band. Even worse - altering the zero by drawing the barrel closer to the bottle if not. I'd also be expecting an ongoing unstable zero regardless of how carefull you think you are in the field, at the very least a nagging doubt as to whether the pellet is going to do the job on live quarry mate. reedbradshaw
thanks for your advice i did check this whilst in the field and noticed my zero has changed...i will not be using the strap again!!!
Dave-G
Nice one Reed - sorry to be the bearer of bad news mate. Get yerself a proper set of studs fitted mate, I'm a recent convert to using a sling after fleabags persistent tutting when it was his turn to carry. Glad I got it now too.
