A friend of mine had one years ago and has been trying to find a replacement now he's getting back into the sport. He really rates them as a reliable and well made gun, but they don't come up often. For £150 I'd buy it if it's in reasonable condition. I'd imagine parts could be an issue, but then they don't break often :hmm:

Hi Guys

I own one of these shotguns, Bought it off a friends dad for £100 at the beginning of last year I have used it for clays, pigeons and lamping rabbits and never had a problem with it.

It looks like it has been well used but keeps soldiering on.

Regards

Alec

Quality built gun, for £150 it's a bargain. The company merged with Sako, that's why the name is not heard so much now.

Yes your right there Bob, The barrel locking latch is exactly the same system as the Krieghoff, I allmost purchased a new one about 4 years ago, but they all had a sling swivell lug on the blued barrels, unless you had the dull chrome model.

Valmets are brewd in finland and excelent firearms Valmet i do believe has some connection to Sako, for example they take simplistic fail safe russian concepts and add germanic style ubber quality and machiening and you truely have one of the finnest and best weapons in the world I got to fire the new Finland army's Valmet m90 and what a beautiful infantry rifle i would say it equalls swiss infantry rifles which i believe both hold slightly better over German/Austrian weapons, and i cant imagine any hunting rifle comming from them being any less desirable

  • 1 year later...
they make tractors don't they

The word Valmet originally came from ValtionMetalli, which roughly translates as State-owned Metalworks. The company was formed after the war and included factories that had been involved in the manufacture of weapons. Since then, they've been involved in the manufacture of cars (Valmet currently builds the Porsche Boxster and Cayman here in Finland), paper making machinery and of cours weapons. The "defence" company Patria is a spin-off from Valmet.

The tractor making business started in 1951 in the old rifle factory in Tourala, Jyväskylä, Central Finland. It was called Valmet at the time. In the 90s it was decided to change the name of the tractor business, which became ValtraValmet, and then about 10 years ago, simply Valtra (Valmet Tractors, see all very logical  )

The Valmet name is still in use for other products in Finland.

Very similar to Nokia, who also used to make rubber boots and tyres! But once Nokia phones really took off, then the rubber boot and tyres companies changes their names and became:

Nokian Footwear

and

Nokian Tyres

"Nokian" is the possessive form of the word "Nokia", and would translate into English as Nokia's (i.e. belonging to or of - Nokia).

Anyway this is my first post on here, I live in Finland, shoot a bit and enjoy the outdoors, so hello everyone!
