bob300w
I think that it depends on food availability, if they eat well in the mornings, they tend to sit up trees in the afternoon digesting their crop-fulls. It's when they have been chased about in the mornings that they are eating and have full crops in the afternoon. I assume that they were in good condition? Three farms hes got in berwick the other day were covered in snow, when we checked the night before they were clear and there were pigeon all over them, he reckons theyll be struggling to find suitable feed and moving too far burning up what they can get. 2shots
point taken mate, wouldnt you think if there food source is limited you would have thought theyed been filling there faces on rape plenty about around this way Theres plenty up here but its about 2 foot high now, hard going I suppose and the fresh drillings are like marshes, knee deep in mud and soaking, dont know if this puts them off. Over the last few weeks Ive seen better woodies on the grass verges after the council cut it too close to civilization though maybe this is what theyre filling up on. M ROBSON
The birds around here have been playing hard to get this last few days and haven't been feeding really heavy at all. Since the weather turned wet and from the north they've been switching onto Rape and Clover then back to drills with no real pattern to them. A few nice warm days is what we need to get them back on the drillings properly! Mark.
maxwell
Kenny i was out yesterday and it was very slow indeed infact two pigeons was my lot they were not interested in the deeks so i went for a walkabout, i put it down to very little wind as there wern't many flying at all. The two i shot had rape in their crops as its just sprouting in some fields but three feet tall in others, if the forcast for heavy rain tomorrow is wrong i will try again. gadgit
My first trip out with all me new gear resulted in 7 birds.....25 shots. Still plenty of birds round here......Cambridge area. Things dried up at one point? then a small child said hello mister!!! dressed in bright yellow.. and that was the end of that. And this is in the middle of a field in the bushes. Kid came from nowhere..housing about half a mile away. (no school then) Then the farmer came over to have a look, dressed in bright orange suit? (my mate)... The Hyperflaps worked great....still bringing in the birds till they saw us in the field., but they still came quite close. Farmer boy and me will be at it in the morning....to beat my new record of 7.....great fun......and cheaper than clays by a mile. Funny thing is i'm still having problems with the clays but i'm getting the pigeons?? I'm off again tomorrow, same place. not much to beat, I know, but its a good start. henry d
been out a couple of times recently over rape not much about............, what goin on??? I`ve seen a few >> Here << have a think and see if you have any areas that are similar, grass parks and sitty trees that are near flightlines and are starting to bud, get a few deeks out and try something different, it may work or not, but you have tried it and one day a different approach will turn up trumps Best of luck. funky
Hi had the same here in Suffolk its been really slow going. The rape i shot over has taken off and also the birds have split up to pair up as my learned friend said Suffolk Shooter " They are all loved up ". If you watch the birds in flight they flap their wigs making a slapping noise and fly as if they are on a roller coaster this is to attract breeding partners . Also there is a bounty full amount of food about everything is sprouting up and and growing. Change of behavior food is not the priority its time to make little ones and grab a bite to eat in between the passion
