bandit man
*** I've been shooting for years and i wouldn't have known why Hull cartridge was written on the side of an air gun, it does make sense but with Hull being more well known for making shotgun cartridges I can see where the confusion comes in. Love to know why not knowing this makes me a danger to the general public though Al4x; Hull Cartridge Company are the official importers of Weihrauch air rifles, a Weihrauch without this stamp on the barrel is a 'grey' import and Hull would not honour any warranty claim made on it. spot on mate if you dont ask you dont get

Highlander
OK I’ll try to spell it out for you all...I have no objection to anyone, young old whatever (perhaps I should have looked at Kiddy1s age before I made the comment but some of the questions asked on here are quite frankly laughable) taking up shooting sports BUT what I do object to is people taking up the sport without having even a basic knowledge of what they’re at. IMO it’s way too easy in this country to get/buy a gun and go shooting. No one questions your capabilities, knowledge etc etc. You’ve only to read some of the comments on here to see how damaging that can be to our sport. Simple stuff really. If you want to join a wildfowling club you have to take a test to show competence and knowledge of your quarry, what you can and can’t shoot etc etc and in many instances you will be mentored for at least your first few outings if not your first season. Some even insist you have a dog or at least have the use of one otherwise no shooting. When all is said and done it’s good practice but all to often I see people who know very little, probably care even less either through plain stupidity or ignorance and who have no regard for the dangers, the safety or their quarry simply buying a gun and going shooting on the first bit of land they can find. And don’t try to tell me there are systems in place to stop these people being granted SGCs or FACs because we all know that’s not the case. So whilst I’m more than happy to help and answer basic questions I’d rather they were asked BEFORE you buy a gun and go shooting and not after the event. Oh and by the way...try READING the posts thoroughly before making comments on them.
CharlieT
My dear Highlander, the problem is that you and I are too old. We grew up in an age where one was taught to think before speaking and to engage ones brain and use a little common sense. I suspect that you like me started off with an air rifle at 8 years old and progressed to a .410 then a single barrel 12bore then an old .22rf before making the monumental leap to a double 12bore and a .22 hornet. We grew up using guns in the countryside, I even used to cycle to school with one tied on the cross bar of my bike. Regret ably times have changed and it will get even worse. Very few youngsters nowadays get an airgun for their 8th birthday and guidance from their parents and peers to start them on the road to a lifetimes enjoyment of shooting. As most young people seem to take up shooting in their late teens and early twenties with no prior knowledge of shooting, guns and the countryside it falls to us the shooting community to take on this role and also perhaps along the way do what their teachers should have done and teach them to think, they might then not ask such silly, stupid questions. Axe
The principal of the forum is to build a database packed full of useful information, help and advice for those who wish to learn more. Gentlemen, if you feel a question is silly or stupid it is simply better not to comment at all.
al4x
well said axe, the whole point of people coming on here and asking questions is to gain knowledge. We all have to have started somewhere and knowing the basics before you go shooting is pretty useful if you haven't got someone to show you the what to do and introduce you to the sport.
