"Well I have found a new forum where there is just not people from Essex/Suffolk talking about each other and pink hats."

I'm confused.com, do you have a problem with people from Essex, people from Suffolk, or people wearing pink hats from either/both counties?

no i dont have a problem with them it was just one of the issues that I could think of.

And Im having a bad day so I aint got the sense of humour today.

But ask the question again, Why dont people post anymore? and think about it please. If someone comes on for serious advice s/he doesnt want people joking about it, thats how you lose members, genaral banter just not for jokers General banter is a place where the are no sub forums for it.

Can you see why people dont post anymore? You just need to read this thread you will find out.

You tell 'em Dusty !

We shouldnt have fun on here. All I want are pictures of inside-out foxes and lectures from people about health and safety.

You contribute loads of words of wisdom to shooters on here (1647 posts), tell us about your gun....

Oh that's a slam dunker.

Regarding, posting - who cares. If you want to post, post. If you want to read, read. However, general banter is just that.

As for serious topics, I have now reached the view that it has all been done before - any serious topic or question, stick it into the "search" function and you will see it's done the rounds before. Inside out foxes etc - plenty, have a browse and fill ya boots.

What keeps the forum alive and current are the daily posts and these may or may not be rubbish and may or may not be the same questions over and over again.

For me, the forum is a light hearted distraction and as luck would have it along the way I have made numerous acquaintances whom I would now call friends. Good friends. We meet, we talk, we shoot and that's all done in the real world.

Firstly- Here here to the first post....

There is virtually no topics on here which cannot be answered from previous discussion.

As for the second post......

The Essex/Suffolk banter may all be a guise to cover a secret allied bond to cover planned insurgency across the scottish border???

Dustyfox, stop keep throwing the eggs.

Hard to argue with this, makes a lot of sense to me.

Nobody has to read anything they don't want to (as has been said before). The alternatives are all here, inside out animals, ballistics, piccies of guns, home loading, recipes - all good stuff. This however, is General Banter, and it's full of ****. Some of us enjoy a certain amount of ****, others don't. I have difficulty understanding why they read this section.

I must confess that I don't like to see threads in the other sections hijacked but it does occasionally happen. On a fishing forum that I belong to, the mods peel off irrelevant posts after a hijacking and put them into a new thread in General Banter, where the nonsense can continue, leaving the original topic relevant and serious - maybe that should happen here.

Whether you care to admit it or not, the forum would be plain dull and very quiet without the General Banter. All forums are the same, just check the total post counts on the home page of any forum and you'll see that General Banter gets several times more posts than any other section. It's why most people belong to a forum, it's an opportunity to enjoy a laugh with like-minded people. Those who moan about banter very seldom post anything and rarely ever start a topic. They maintain that the reason for this is that they don't feel able to post, because they think their post will be hijacked - this is complete ****. They don't post, because they have nothing to contribute except moans.

There is a forum I know of for sporting clay shooting, which tends to be used by the elite of the clay shooting world. It's terminally boring. There are hardly any posts and those that there are are just people brown-nosing each other and massaging each others egos. There isn't anybody on there with a sense of humour, but I suppose they're like-minded  . I don't believe it will last, because there are only a handful of posts a day, ego-massaging or moaning about shooting grounds, usually Worsley :hmm:

I agree with Mungler on this one, I use the forum for the banter and to get to know like-minded people, hence my recent meet up in Kent. There are parts of the site that I don't look at, because I'm not interested - inside out animals and airgunning to name a couple, but I don't moan about the content of those sections or try to get the content changed, I just don't read them.

I'm quite surprised how sensitive some people on here are  And to answer the original question - all forums tend to have a hard core of frequent posters, thousands of lurkers and a number of occasional posters and Tosspot :hmm: . All forums also have people who throw their dummies out of the pram and leave, because they've been teased or told off or had the pi$$ taken out of them.

People come and go - hey-ho

And for your info I am just about to apply for my SGC and have been invited to join a friend to go pigeon shooting, I have told him to join or look at this forum but when he See's all this I don't think he will bother.

I have an imaginary gun cabinet for sale, maybe when you get your imaginary SGC, you and your imaginary friend might want to buy it?...

Then he realised that despite the shooting outfit, his "friend" might not be able to use the keyboard...

Well after reading this complete load of drivel I can conclude that,

A) Dustyfox needs to get a life,

And

 If people don't want to post then don't but don't have a go at the ones that do.

I, like Mungler use this forum as a distraction from work and also have met lots of like minded people who again can be considered as friends.

And LV is wasted as a freight forwarding type of guy, he should be on stage doing stand up comedy.

Well, I can't ask DustyFox, as he has left us to find a site with no humour or distractions, so maybe someone else can tell me how/why he managed to put up 1651 posts on a shooting forum when he does not even own a gun?

I think that Martin has summed it up perfectly with his comments;

"If people don't want to post then don't but don't have a go at the ones that do.

Managed to miss last nights fun, games and dummy throwing.

To have my say, PW gets me through the day and it's the banter that keeps me going with like minded people, christ if there wasn't PW I'd actually have to do some work and that wouldn't be good for anyone.

There are certain other sites where the general banter only gets a couple of entries a day which means I only log on there once or twice a day to see what's happening whereas I reckon I check PW at least 10 times a day and have it up most of my lunch break.

If people think there is too much suffolk/essex banter then they could happily start their own, I'm sure Lancashire/Yorkshire could give them a run for their money.

I think this is a very good point. This is a case of the spotty nerdy kid at school, who doesn't like the cliques of bad boys, because he feels excluded. The fact is, he should get off his harris and get himself included or start his own, as Dr W says. If he doesn't want to do either, then he shouldn't really moan. I don't feel excluded from the Essex/Suffolk thing and I live in Manchester

I think PW is a great distraction from all the ****. It takes my mind off all sorts or stuff that I don't want to be dwelling on, I seem to be well and truly sucked into the credit crunch problems and it would occupy my head 24 hours a day if there wasn't good stuff like this to take my mind off it
