Target-Squab
MONEY IS NOT THE ISSUE! But as Dustfx has just explained BASC does not include legal cover only advice, SACS includes £100,000 legal cover and advice. Advice will not pay court fees! http://www.basc.org.uk/media/basc_policy_document.pdf seems to indicate that they do provide legal cover. dustyfox
I dont understand it, does it mean you have to pay the court fees first then when its over they pay up??? Why cant they make it simple to read, Im not going to read 35 pages of writing to find out what is included.

dustyfox
BASC DOES NOT INCLUDE LEGAL COVER (sorry for having to shout!) Yes as I thought, if they did they would mention it straight the way not hide it in a big catalogue of pages.

"Legal cover" - does any of them offer legal cover for licencing issues/appeals etc with the police for example? I ask because several members permissions are within hearing distance of residents and near paths and roads. There's frequently someone displeased about us shooting vermin and calling out the police. It only takes one to tell lies and suggest something took place that didn't and we could potentially be in the poo with our certificates. V8landy
Looks like it will be SACS for me. I phoned up BASC today, and the guy I spoke to knew as much about shooting as my cat! He knew nothing about the insuarance, could not even tell me anything about the magazines (not that I am intrested anyway). [No, its not right. Its more like £10, which is similar to the other organisations, who offer similar cover. So for the other £32 I am getting what from BASC? The rest of the subscription fee is to cover membership of the respective organisation. Its a known fact that the BASC firearms department employs more staff than some of the other mentioned organisations do in their entirety. And what is their firearms dept going to do for me? Or am I just paying for them to shoot all day? Dont expect a Jaguar at a Lada price. . I think you will find that a Lada is a much better car and you get more for your money than a Jag any day. I think BASC need to think again, yes they might have saved the world in the past, but us new people do not need bow down to them!
V8landy
BUt hang on! On reading the http://www.basc.org.uk/media/basc_policy_document.pdf I states on page 11. Legal costs and addtional benifits, which to me describes as though they DO pay legal costs! Anyway I have emailed BASC for they reply. Will post what I get. webber
WELCOME to the SACS WEBSITE We exist to promote and protect the future of country sports in Scotland and Northern Ireland, the environment on which they depend, and the interests of those people who are involved or employed in managing, conserving, and enjoying Scotland's and Northern Ireland's unique sporting heritage. They will insure you, you may have some cover, but they seemingly will do nothing to protect or promote shooting in England or Wales, something to think about? webber

paul hart
If you have Kids under 16 they get free membership, same value as adults thats a good reason to join.
dustyfox
To me your just paying for the name of BASC, people are attracted to them because they got the more members and are more recognisable. But if you join SACS you get more for your money. Somebody said that instead of leaving why dont you tell them your views, dont think they will listen, if you leave they will have to have a re-think to get members back in. I would like to see somebody on here suggest what benifits BASC offer over SACS, other than a bigger firearms department. SACS may just be for Scotland and NI but Im sure if they get alot more from England and Wales they will grow into those areas.
