Dr W
My Mrs has just bought me a lovely new cartridge bag for my b'day and I was wondering if people had any tips for the best way to care for it before I take it out in the field and it gets wet etc. I was going to polish it with brown shoe polish, is this a good idea? What about keeping the oils in the leather in the future? What about the inside? Thanks
deershooter
Dont use brown boot polish, you need Neats foot oil this is made from sheep hoves I think and shuld bre available from any good saddle store or equestion center good cobblers might sell it as well. I was lucky I went past local shop with skip outside and found a full tin . Deershooter
steve_b_wales
I bought a tin of Leather preserver from Millets some time ago. I used it on a leather hat and it was good. It's like a wax which can be rubbed into the item.
Dr W
Thanks for the info, I'll try and find some. What's wrong with boot polish or is it just not as good as Neats foot oil? Cheers
Cranfield
Boot polish is just a surface coating and will come off on your hands, clothing, etc. The Neats foot oil, or leather wax, actually goes into the material and does what is says on the tin.
