redkite
Greetings New to the forum.....and new to shooting. I bought myself a new (non FAC) Rapid 7 in May of this year after obtaining permission to use 150 acres of farmland about 5 minutes walk from my front door!! Lucky or what!!! I began by shooting rabbits and had considerable success. Sadly the whole area is now riddled with 'Mixxie' and in three months a thriving rabbit population has virtually disappeared. I therefore moved on to 'Woodies' only to discover that they are much more difficult to shoot. However, after reading the tips on this website I set up a decent hide and used the decoy-laying tips. The location I use is a fallow, sheep-grazed field at a point approx fifty yards from shallow woods adjacent to a canal. For the first month or so I had some success. (To me that is 6 pigeons in say 3-4 hours). In the last couple of weeks I have had absolutely zilch - not even a hint of a landing although I have despatched several magpies that dropped by. I have literally lay there for up to 5 hours at a time. To be honest I am reluctant to move all my gear (16 x 12 ft camo groundsheet and a dozen solid decoys) around and deal with all of the problems with the hide that the wind brings. (I keep my gear in a closed-off storm drain within a 10 x 10ft protective fence around some saplings) I have fixed screws to the fence so that the camo sheet fits perfectly over half of it providing an effective hide.[/size] I know I am being idle so 2 requests really.............. Any advice for making my current hide more effective / bringing the 'woodies' in OR Any advice on constructing 'quicky' hides that don't take all day to build and don't keep blowing away. Thanks redkite PS I'll put my tin hat on! Edited October 22, 2008 by redkite

LongRangeSniper
Welcome redkite, there are a great bunch here as I am finding out as a newbie. I see you have found the joys of pigeon shooting then. Can we assume the woddies are still flying over you are just not landing into your decoys ? Ferret Master
First of all welcome. Your problem is that birds will not want to feed in exactly the same place all year round. They go to where the food supply is and this time of year that's not on fallow grazing land. FM
