p-a-s
regardless what cal you are shooting if you have tried a round and it does the biz then stick with it. as a rule i only try different rounds on a new rifle, when i find 1 that is grouping well i stick with it.its only a case of fine tuning then
njc110381
If it aint broke don't fix it - or at least that's my opinion. Try out the new rounds just to see how they work, you never know they may be the same? I'd stick to what works for you though, as you could spend the rest of your shooting career chasing a better load without finding one. It's a waste of time and could even dent your confidence in the gun if a new round lets you down
al4x
with the HMR most come out of the same factory and shoot in a very similar way. I've not found anything mine doesn't like I do re-zero but the changes are usually minimal. Other calibers it makes far more difference
casts_by_fly
for the most part, all of the ammo is the same. However, lot to lot variability is enough that some lots will shoot better than others out of a particular gun. So when you find a lot and brand that is working well, stick to it and buy as much as you can hold. My savage really liked winchester red box and CCI's. Rem's and hornady didn't do much for me. Thanks, Rick

Hunter2
Hi Steve,The cz american 452 16"cracking kit , using a bipod set out a target at 103 yrds acording to the electronic range finder with no real wind 1/2" grouping, with remington 17gr v max, just amazing pulled a few shots wide mainley down to me, first day out after setting up the zero on the range. first bunny was over 100 yrds body shot made a bit of a mess, dead is dead.have not looked back that was three months ago.I have mainley been using the cz 452 american 20" in .22 using mainley winchesters cant put it down.fired over 1300 rounds.I would recommend if the trigger is a bit harsh is have the trigger mod done,if you are unsure get a gun smith to do it or someone who has done them before made so much difference, I was out tonight with the hmr amonst the fireworks...doh... still managed 3 bunnys Great little rifle for the price,if you are hunting with it its great tool. stevethevanman
well I was looking at either a american 17 or a varmint, the heavy barrel looks nice but, does the thicker barrel actualy help. Some say no because in rimfire velocitys there is no need but others say that it aids harmonics...so basical that leaves me nowere?? Hunter2
Any clubs your end maybe a few guys might have both, maybe put up a topic see what people have a preference and why. i picked up both and i think the varmint is heavier for me, once you add a scope and 13"to 25" bipod the weight is right for me
bullet boy
Try the Winchester Supremes-my mate always used them.
Newsportshooter
Mate, Apprently all the .17HMR rounds are made by CCI (and then repackaged by the respective companies) not sure how true this is but it would make sense. I shoot the CCI 20 grain jacketed hollow points and find them excellent. I have shot the balistic tiped winchester but took a close (35 Yards) rabbit with one once and it made a hell of a big hole in it destorying most of the meat. (I know, I know - I should have gone for a head shot but I was testing the ammo, and before anyone says anything on the impact of the round the rabbit jumped up about 1 foot and then hit the ground dead ' I checked imediately and didn't have to despatch it). I recently zeroed in my scope on my Quad using 20 grain hollow points (as my choice of ammo) and although not a very windy day there was a breeze - even so I found myself hitting empty 12 Gauge cartriges primer end on repeatedly at 75-80 Yards without issues. As said I have a quad and this round really seems to suit it. To be fair to the winchester round it was acurate as hell but like I said it seemed to do more damage to the quary. Hope this helps
Newsportshooter
p.s For CCI 20 Grain Hollow points - I go to Park Street Guns (Park Street, Herts) - £10.50 for 50. see - www.gunshot.co.uk - for info.

Newsportshooter
I'm sure you'll agree that it's a cracking round though either way... Totally agree with your comments re PSG. I bought a shotgun from them, not only did they knock some off the ticket, when we agreed a price they also threw in a slab of cartridges - Top service.
