nagantino
I have been keeping an eye on this field and had thought it was OSR but its still uncut. The photo was taken today. During the early summer this field and others near it, were bright lemon/yellow in colour and I asked and got permission to shoot over them. I thought and hoped it was rape but I am unsure now. The yellow colour is still there. I have never seen a woodpigeon alight into this crop or any bird. Can anybody say what it is?
anser2
Its difficult to say from a long range photo , but looks like a root crop , swedes , turnips or fodder beet . If it is keep an eye on it as the pigeons might hit it late winter or go for the frosted chips after harvest. You could ask the farmer. anser2
Sorry my mistake I thought you were talking about the crop in the foreground. The distant stuff looks like mustard.
Baldrick
Mustard, 100% certain.
tiercel
Would it not be better to ask the farmer what crop it is? As he planted it then he should know.
Catamong
I think it's a potato field, and the yellow stuff isn't mustard, it's Charlock, (just a weed). Now here's a goodun......................" I asked permission to shoot over them"....then........"I have never seen a Woodpigeon alight into this crop or any bird"....Doh.... Cat. Highlander
That's a crop? Farmer should be ashamed of himself. Potatoes in the forground but I'd say they were second/regrowth not the original crop unless they plant 'em with plenty of breathing space in your neck of the woods. Weeds/Charlock in the background further up the hill. If you've never seen pigeons on it (and I'm not surprised) why bother trying to shoot it? Catamong
There's a funny echo in here today....!! Cat.
scolopax
Charlock is a nightmare on the ground we have, every cover crop we have tried to establish has been swamped by the stuff, it loves chalk land.
