Nial
Henry_d PM'd me last week to see if I was interested in heading out again, my last outing with him wasn't too sucessful (3 birds) and I think he wanted to show me the ropes more. I jumped at the chance so headed up to the wild north (over the Forth Bridge) this morning as soon as I could make it. His friend Jimmy was out too until lunch when he had to disappear off to the dentist, we stuck it out 'till 2:30 ish when things started to go quiet(er). Today was a much better day bird wise, it was quite windy with quite a few groups kicking about, we had a good few approaching in but not that many committing to the decoys. We'd set up to the side of a group of trees so a lot of our shots were lost (ie not taken) as the birds were settling in the trees and we couldn't get a clear view. Henry and Jimmy were real gentlemen and were obviously deliberately missing a lot of real sitters so I wouldn't feel too bad! Henry also helpfully demonstrated what happens when you pull the bird's head too much when breaking its neck, just after warning me what would happen if you pull the birds head too much when breaking its neck. We ended up with 13 which wasn't great but I had a 400% improvement on last time and it was an enjoyable day out, thanks guys. Nial.

Cosd
So Henryd was missing sitters on purpose.........because he was being a gentleman...... Well done lads, and good on you henryd for "being a gentleman"
henry d
Nothing could be further from the truth, I shot like a ****, however Nial got 2 top birds just like driven pheasants. He just needs to pull a bit further forwards when shooting live game as he shoots clays normally...........I on the other hand need to give myself a talking to, especially as I am out at the geese tomorrow ! Nial
Nial got 2 top birds just like driven pheasants. Two sitters you mean, I couldn't have missed them! Just like all the other ones we did miss :-) He just needs to pull a bit further forwards when shooting live game as he shoots clays normally I'm not sure, I was experimenting with different amounts of lead. I think I might have been stopping my gun when I took the shot, it's something I'll have to keep in mind next time I'm out.
